There's pretty much no way this is the real reason. Instead of having the spine to tell the truth and say it's because the competition would benefit from this more than Sony, Sony comes up with an excuse that seemingly makes sense while trying to make PlayStation look better.

And you care because...?

And you care about what I think because...? Anywhere, I don't particularly care, but I think this is quite despicable from Sony. That's not to defend the others either, of course, especially since Microsoft was in a similar situation during last generation.

PS players can't access their accounts? Since when?

Ever since they bought a Switch.

I probably missed it but so far I haven't seen them stepping up to clarify anything. They're responsible for not just making the game but also making sure that there is balance for whenever they decide to make it maltiplat/crossplay.

I feel they've been clear enough.

To be honest, this behavior doesn't seem like arrogant Sony. This seems like afraid Sony. Switch has been on a steamroll since its launch, so of course they're going to try any tactic to slow it down while they wait for their next-gen projects to complete.

I don't want cross play ever either. Any title that has it like rocket league and fortnite with pc I switch it off. It is indeed an inferior experience for me compared to playing just ps4 players. I don't like it and don't want it.

Hey Kero, your friend Ethomaz was caught lying on resetera

I am so sick of having people trying to make XB1/Switch/PS4 crossplay happen, its not going to happen. These companies are competitors and for Sony to allow such a thing is to directly play into their competitor's hands. They want to take away the incentives that Sony offers that have people choosing it over the others in droves. Exclusivity has always been the name of the game in Video Games. It is the deciding factor of why you choose COD over Battlefield, XBox over Playstation, etc, etc. Exclusive features are what define them and userbase is one of the largest selling factors.

Do you know how many times people used "Well all my friends had a 360 so I got a 360" as a decider?

"Well it isn't Fair."
What isn't fair is trying to get one company to do work for their competition when they have continued to exclaim they don't want to.

"Sony is standing in the way of progress. It is important now because we have never been closer."
WHAT!? The only change in the game is the Switch, which arguably NEEDS to be crossplay because it is at the largest disadvantage with online userbase on the fact it just came out. All this is is a role reversal. Sony INVENTED crossplay back in PS3 era and extended the offer to xbox and got a firm denial. Because Microsoft knew what Sony knows now, its a selling point. Now that Xbox players are at this huge disadvantage on userbase and friend groups are separated in a different manner they want Sony to be the one to bend? Come on now. Back when it was PS360 if you had PS3 but all your friends had 360 and you wanted to play with them.....you got a damn 360. End of story.

People threatening boycotts also makes zero sense. Sony still has Crossplay with both PC and Phones.....of Which they completely eclipse What is possible with PC/Phone/XB1/Switch combined......thats how much of a lead Sony has. You would be leaving the largest circle just to make a point that is ridiculous from the start.

"They want to take away the incentives that Sony offers that have people choosing it over the others in droves."

>No one I know of is asking Sony to give away their exclusive games.

1. Features can be exclusives, Userbase is a feature

2. I can give you an idea, as I worked gaming retail throughout that entire Gen. It was basically the main claim to fame. By generation end when PS3 was getting tons of meaty exclusive games, the main thing that kept  people on 360 and buying 360 was that they were invested with their friend base. To move elsewhere would be forsaking being able to play with them and many have completely abandoned games that they can't play with friends.

3. Well in 2018 Userbase has not stopped being a selling point to decide which console you buy so it's relevance on why they would need to "protect" it still stands. People want Sony to be movable on this practice because it makes it more difficult for them to play on their COMPETITORS......insane. The gist of it is, the only reason to complain about this is if you A)Don't have a PS4 or B) Can't have a friend play with you because they don't have a PS4 and Sony's answer to both has been and still is ".....Buy a PS4."

4. I will agree having the accounts locked to the PS4/PC/Phone platform (without being warned) really sucks. Yet I think people are perceiving ill intention when It could be a byproduct of two factors. That the Game originally debuted on 2 platforms ,which have always worked harmoniously, then came Phone, XB1 and Switch, 2 of whom Sony is unwilling to allow access so they have a newer separate bubble that they work from. The Fortnite situation is kind of unprecedented in the realm of what has been allowed with crossplay. I really think it has more to do with how Fortnite was constructed then some deliberate thing Sony demanded from jump. Sony and Epic are at an empass because Sony is not budging on allowing crossplay with XB1/Switch and Epic is unwilling(or incapable w/o serious cost) of changing the Server screening system that they have already in place and feel only is an issue because of Sony's position.

If another crossplay game comes out and mysteriously has the same locked account situation I would be very much surprised.

Saying they think PS4 offers the best experience is not really saying anything on the matter.

Of course it is the real reason. There is a slogan that literally just says it...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQvggeBG-KE

A business company is inclined to praise their product as better than the competitors. This is what Mr. Yoshida basically does. Nothing else.

Zkuq said:

If the truth is blatantly obvious to everyone, why should there be the need to tell it? But wait, as a matter of fact, Yoshida addresses it. Alas, not so obviously phrased for everyone to understand.

"I think competition is always good. Healthy, fair competition is always good for the industry and growth,"

Healthy and Fair. How is it healthy and fair for a corporation to undermine the process of companies competing against each other, damaging the road that lead to its position of success and give others a helping hand to get their game on?

No, they were not. Back then it was an exceptional case, not a continuously pushed feature constantly in the center of public attention.

Btw., the thread headline is still wrong.

Arrogant or scared or whatever is irrelevant. They pulled some BS and need to be called out on it.

1. I suppose so but according to this poll, it's a very minor factor.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/691087-playstation-4/75726646

There seem to be other factors as well and "it's what my friends have" doesn't seem to show up.

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2015/02/26/the-top-reason-for-choosing-ps4-over-xbox-one-is-resolution-according-to-nielsen/

I do find a "Game Library" and two "Exclusive Games/Content" in the chart above which goes back to my point: no one I know of is asking for Sony to surrender PlayStation's exclusives. Such a request/expectation would be absurd.

2. So what's the count?

"The gist of it is, the only reason to complain about this is if you A)Don't have a PS4 or B) Can't have a friend play with you because they don't have a PS4 and Sony's answer to both has been and still is ".....Buy a PS4.""

3. Or C) some people are idealists and can see why an open industry would be great for consumers or D) want PlayStation to live up to their "4theplayers" marketing campaign or E) don't want Sony's head to get fatter.

4. I don't think it's a matter of technical difficulty. I suspect it's just Sony being asses.

Apparently, it's simple enough that it can be done by mistake. Happened twice as far as I know: September 2017 and January 2018.

What does this corporate suit mean by inferior or superior experiences? The game is the fucking same across all platforms.

Can't believe some people are spinning this.

I can't believe the entitlement I'm seeing on this issue. It seems like some don't realize that 'For the Players' does NOT mean giving consumers incentive to use their competition's product.

Click the article and read what he said in the context he did maybe? Surely you won't take the headline at face value? When do then ever spin things into an overly negative headline. FYI I actually read it.

Extremely well said. Sure why don't Sony just give 1 less reason for people to buy their product. Where was this outcry last gen when Sony wanted to but MS didn't? And not like the 360 was dominating the ps3 for sales. They were only even.
