I gotta say i'm surprised by this comment.

Given the sales numbers (vgchartz's) either he exaggerated or their expectations were really, really low for some games.
For example, Doom, which released pretty at the same time as Sonic Forces, sits at 351.783 units, whereas SF sits at 618.334 units. This is Doom vs a critically panned title...
Also, WF2: TNC, is, in it's 3rd week, selling a third of what Doom sold in the same time frame.

I really can't comprehend how ALL games were "hugely popular".

Or maybe we should just take Vgchartz software numbers with a grain of salt?

I am. But vgchartz would have to fail really badly.
Still, it's what we have to go by.

Also, i find it hard to believe that WF2 was "hugely popular" on Switch, when it wasn't on both the PS4 and Xb1.

Now I want to see which version of Doom Eternal will sell better: the one on the Switch or the one on the XBOne?

Xbox One, the audience there is simply bigger for an ultra gory first person shooter. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Switch version is a bit late; they said they're planning for a simultaneous release but we saw how that worked out for Dark Souls Remastered.

Well, Skyrim is almost certainly over a million already, and while Doom's numbers may not be chart-scorching, it should be remembered that porting an existing game is a hell of a lot cheaper than making one from scratch.

It's common on forums to act as though everything under a million is a flop, but Doom's Switch port may only have needed, say, 200k to turn a profit, with everything beyond that being gravy. Since these ports are being handled by external dedicated porting houses (Panic Button/Iron Galaxy) it's not like they're tying down significant resources at Bethesda, so they make a profit with little risk or investment, the middlemen get to make a tidy living, and Switch owners get more games. Everybody wins.

The simple fact that Doom Eternal is coming at all suggests their efforts thus far have born fruit, if not they would have abandoned the platform by now.

This. Let's take away without any problem that "hugely" as hype, at least for the titles that sold less, but what's left is that Bethesda is satisfied enough with NS to not just keep on supporting it, but also to increase that support. And if it's already satisfied with sales on a NS user base still relatively little, its satisfaction won't surely decrease when the user base will be larger.

Yeah the "hugely" part shouldn't really be taken literally, that's just how PR guys talk.

Actions speak louder than words and Doom Eternal coming to Switch is a pretty clear statement that they're pleased with their results on Switch so far.

When internet posters acts like they now better than Pete Hines regarding sales of Bethesda games :S

People can be cynical ,I'm sure  a lot  expected a glossy PR version of  Hey we made money from some cheap ports were happy and this is our next step, instead it was MR ambiguous referencing the  announcement  of the games as hugely popular.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

That's great news. Bethesda's one of my favorite non-Nintendo developers along with Blizzard (who is also seemingly warming up to Nintendo of late!) Happy times!

I still need to buy Skyrim and Wolfenstein Switch at some point, just as soon as my finances are in better shape!

I admit I haven't read this thread but, I've been wondering, has there been any information about mods?

Did Trump's speech writer finally escape and is now working at Bethesda?

The one on Xbox One. While other genres like platformers or action adventures and especially RPGs do comparatively well on Switch, the shooters released so far are not the best sellers. That means Doom and Wolfenstein in the first place. As Doom Eternal will not be a late port (I hope), it might do a bit better, but I doubt it coming near XB1 numbers.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. While I agree that XBO will probably win, I doubt that Switch will be that far behind in the end. XBO will probably handily win the first week(s), but I think Switch version will have much better legs, crawling closer and closer to the XBO sales over time.

When Doom Eternal will be released, Switch sales will probably be around 30 millions while Xbox One sales should be around 45 millions, so I guess sales numbers could be potentially equivalent for both platforms.

That quote is being taken very out of context, it's transcribed wrong also. Starts at 4:43 on this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEKH4c1k3pM

The quote written in the OP from the NintendoEverything article literally makes zero sense the way they're written it. Here's how it actually should be:

Interviewer - "Myself and a lot of people out of there are really excited and appreciative that you guys are supporting the Switch."

Peter Hines - "It was hugely popular. All the stuff we did I think folks enjoyed."

Misquote - "It was hugely popular all the stuff we did. I think folks enjoyed -"  (Think folks enjoyed what? Doesn't make any sense.)

He was saying that all the stuff they did folks enjoyed, not that all the stuff they did was hugely popular.

The alternative is that Bethesda think 31k first week (Wolfenstein 2) is "Hugely Popular".

Nintendoeverything.com took a basic off-the-cuff remark that amounts to very little, gave it more emphasis/attention than needed and slightly misquoted it to make it sound how they wanted it to.

^ Honestly, the way i ear it is: It was hugely popular all the stuff we did. I think folks enjoyed."

The feeling that i get, specially because of that last sentence, is that, yeah, their announcements were really popular; Didn't seem he was talking about game sales, but more one how people reacted to them.
