Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do male gamers whine about female characters in gaming? especially about Battlefield V?

But to claim women played an integral part on the front like EA suggested and calling everyone who doubted or disagreed about that ignorant and uneducated isn't the way to go. Women made sure there was a country left to fight for and basically made sure the fabrics kept working and that food, ammo and cetera could be send to the front. Also without women the amount of causalities could be easily twice as high since many nurses where enlisted. But on the front its a comparison between hundredthousands women at best against tens of millions men. So statistically complainting gamers had a point.

All I ever really wanted from BFV in terms of campaign stories, were those that gave us a glimpse of what real and actual female soldiers were doing during WWII. These involved the French and Russian sides for the most part, which was what I was expecting, not some dolled up ginger British woman with an advanced prosthetic arm, as well as wearing silly blue face paint.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I couldn't care less if a game stars a man, women, alien, or a rainbow colored scorpion. Just make it good, make in interesting.

I can certainly see concerns with historical accuracy though, if that is in fact what the developers are going for. Obviously there were VERY few women fighting on the battlefield during WWII.. I mean, if you want to present the game in some sort of "alternative history" angle where there were a bunch of women fighting and dying alongside men, then cool, but that doesn't seem to be the case, unless I'm missing something?

You reach a point where this stuff comes across as pandering. Even my sister, who I'd probably describe as a more than moderate Feminist is beginning to see this stuff as condescending to her as a woman, and even said as much when the trailer for Ocean's 8 played. For HER to say that, showed me that this stuff is starting to reach a point of blatant pandering.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident - all men and women created by the, go-you know.. you know the thing!" - Joe Biden

Found this comment:

I showed the reveal trailer to my Grandad. A man who fought in France.

He said... "Is that a female?" "Yes grandad"

"Is that face paint?" "Yes grandad"

"Does she have a prosthetic hand?" "Yes grandad"

He then took his glasses off as his eyes filled with tears and said... "I lost so many friends in Europe during that war. They weren't ’friends’ at all. They were my brothers. And I miss them everyday."

He wiped his tears away and finished by saying... "I'm sorry, I didn't see any women with claws wearing face paint....but I saw a lot of dead men. Is this what people think happened? Because it isn't."

I patted him on the head and simply told him...

"You're uneducated."

I am actually shocked to discover the OP is FattyDingDong. No offense but this is one of the most reasonable and well thought out threads I have seen from you. I actually find myself agreeing with you.

Yes, people are angry. If your series does not start out with a female protagonist you will be given hell if you change to one apparently. See some of the reaction to The Last of Us Part II or Gears V.

Usually people who say "agenda this" or "agenda that" are convinced popular culture is out to get them and make them feel uncomfortable.

I am very passionate and concerned about this issue so i almost felt obligated to make this thread. What is scary to me is that most people on here seem to disagree with us and they fit that description very well they are truly convinced that the "liberal media" is trying to ruin their way of life.

The liberal media is not trying to ruin my life.  Then again, I'm not actually a conservative, so... any other sweeping generalizations you want to make while you're at it?

because battlefield was a little more serious and realistic. Now a sex that wasn't fighting on the front line in ww2 has a robotic and a sword. Its cringe worthy because men fought and died. Make a game with a woman in french resistance so it isn't foolish.

EA already did. It's called "The Saboteur" and it's one of EA's most brilliant games they did in the past decade or so. Unfortunately it sold like shit.

yeah basically you're forced to like what they say you should or else males are called sexists and every other label in the book.  EA gonna learn the hard way with BFV's sales.

I think the bar for what is racism or sexism at this point is low at this point the words are going to end up losing all meaning

Yup, this is the problem with using all the word in the book and throwing them around so loosely. Use them too much and their meaning becomes nothing.

I have seen that when i had EA access.  I thought there was a male on the cover.  Almost everybody likes a female lead in a game like metriod because it's not about a woman it's about a great character.  That poor girl in battlefield is so full of  cringe.

For the case of Battlefield V people were pissed because of how they were presented and how EA attacked the fan base. Fucking every other game with female characters in war are perfectly fine because they just exist and its alright. EA and Dice were trying to pull some SJW feminist bullshit on our asses and people weren't having it.
Fuck, a female lead in AC Odyssey as an option and no one cares or is mad about it because Ubisoft was chill about it, not calling everyone misinformed and sexist pigs and telling us not to buy their game if we're mad.

Politics don't belong in games unless the games is specifically about politics, like most Cyberpunk games.

Just a reminder to everyone to keep the conversation civil. Please refrain from making broad unwarranted generalizations or insults towards other people. From this point on, anyone who does not follow the warning will be moderated accordingly.

They could have gone with an all Russian female squad invading Germany. As I said in my post could be a really good story. Or a story that focused on the French recistance both would have given a credible look on Ww2 from the perspective of a female. But instead they went with, well this and it was the wrong choice.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
