Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony is losing playstation console exclusives left and right this 2018.

Eh, it's more of a case of the era of 3rd party exclusives dying out. Sure, Sony has lost exclusives like Nioh, Ni No Kuni, Yakuza, and Disgaea 5, but on the flip side a lot of PC only games have come to the PS4. Games like Subnautica, Divinity 2, Pillars of Eternity, and Shadow Tactics.

For Gen 9 there are only two types of games that will remain platform exclusives. They are...

1. Games that Sony/Nintendo owns the exclusive rights to will remain PS/Switch exclusives.

2. Games that can only be played with keyboard and mouse, will remain PC exclusives.

Oh, and Persona 5 will come to Switch before it comes to PC. Every Persona since 3 has had a portable version. P5 will be no different.

You're saying "this 2018" ...but in reality Sony had lost it since the beginning of last gen (2006?), why do you think they've been stepping up their A-game with their first party titles in PS3? I'm more surprised that you're only seeing this now lol

For those asking for a list:

Former PS4 Console Exclusives
-Nier Automata
-Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
-Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
-No Man's Sky

Series that were Playstation exclusives in previous generations going to other platforms on the remasters or newest releases
-Grandia (Grandia remaster is Switch exclusive)
-Spyro Reignited Trilogy
-Valkyria Chronicles

Former Playstation exclusives going to PC
-Yakuza (also hints of going to Xbox in the future)

You’re padding your list with games that were never exclusives in the first place as they were on PC.

Grandia was never a PS exclusive.

Spyro hasn’t been exclusive since 2001.

Valkyria Chronicles went multiplatform before this gen started. The last VC game that was exclusive and released in the west was in 2010 and the last exclusive on a PS system was in 2011.

Same thing with Yakuza - it went multiplatform before the PS4 got released.

As you can, none of this matters as ultimately the PS console is about the unique and varied first parties and the enormous amount of third parties.

PS3's combination of a weird processor, and launching at $500 to $600 did untold amounts of damage to their ecosystem. Games go multiplatform when they think they can't make enough money off a single console's sales. And that is determined by how well a console sells.

Incorrect as games were going multiple well before the PS3 launched. In fact, almost all of the big PS2 games were multiplatform.

All of those games should release on other platforms, it only makes sense.

No need to do anything, most of the sales and impact happens on the first couple months, the real exclusives like GoW, TLOU, SpiderMan, Detroit, Ghost of Tsushima, etc will keep exclusives for the forseable future.

I also would like to point that the japanese games releasing on X1 do lot worse than on PS4, even famous one like Final Fantasy are in that situation.

Yes, games were going multiplatform well before the PS3 launched. But very few of those games were PS2 exclusives. They were either PC/GameCube games that found their way onto PS2, or PC games that found their way onto Xbox.  Not PS2 games that found their way onto GameCube/PC.

Because Sony has a good and long-standing relationship with these developers and publishers, that you don't know these are timed exclusive games until they release on the Xbox

I think al those games were always intended to release elsewhere...... just on PS4 first cause thats where most of the money was to be made.

I doubt sony is losing sleep over it
