The fact that they have a licence to use the Gamebryo engine says that they at least have something going on that will eventually become a videogame, otherwise they wouldn't have paid for it.

You're right on the first part but wrong on the 2nd: they either had money to license it or Gamebryo wanted the free press that would come with licensing it (aka Nibris duped them).

HOWEVER, just because they have the engine doesn't mean it'll eventually become a videogame. Lots of games get started and then get scrapped when the dev team encounters problems and can't hack it.

Nibris is, as near as I can tell, a completely unknown dev who certainly hasn't tackled any huge projects (if any projects at all). A 20 hour game in full 3D with atmospheric elements is a ridiculously difficult task to undertake.

To put this in perspective, Nibris trying to develop a game with the scope of Sadness is like a person taking a month's worth of karate classes and then stepping into the ring with Bruce Lee: no amount of blind optimism is going to prepare that person for reality.

I'd have faith in Nibris if they already had a library of software released, but seeing as how they don't, expecting anything but disappointment is a bad idea.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Told you guys it isn't vaporware.

I'm as shocked as anyone that it's not, and I'm excited as hell about the prospect of playing it. Always looked like it had a great concept.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Wait a minute? There aren't any colors in the game? Good news for color blind people but...how in the hell are we suppose to play games without colors? Well, we can but not quite as good. Ah whatever, I don't care. About the color thing, I mean. Now.

Yes, it was impossible to watch movies before color TV, so it must be the same with games now? ;) If it gets harder to see and notice things because of the lack of color, it may actually make the game more scary.

What, color wasn't an important improvement over black and white? Anyways, we'll see if the design choice plays out well.

You're so naive. Black-and-white rules when atmosphere is involved.

Name a successful game that is fully black and white. A game like this might be 20 hours long and I doubt every part is designed to be scary. Whether it is a wise idea to run through 20 hours in black and white remains to be seen.

I can't name a succesful game but I can name a succesful modern movie.

Schindlers List is Black and White that could of gone color but Black and White effect the mood and atmosphere and really helped the film. Sin City was already mentioned and 300 while in color is essentially very flat and mostly sepia. While I am not a fan of hte last two they are both very succesful and the choice of Black and White and color muting is a big part of the characteristics of the films themselves. And of course Clerks.

So color muting and black and white has been succesful used in fictional cinema for atmosphere with success. I am not including stuff like Dead Men Don't Wear Plad or Young Frankenstein or many other movies whot in Black and white as a matter of choice like Lake of Fire.

For games you are right I can't think of any black and white games but it is also something that could provide an interesting twist to the horror genre.

Night of Living Dead would not be the same film in Color.

That picture isn't confirmed....

Nothing about Sadness is.

Don't get your hopes up til we start seeing moving builds of the game.

What this guy said.  Hell, just because we got news about Duke Nukem Forever doesn't mean it ever came out.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

True. All we know right now is that Nibris has the tools to do something beyond concept. And because it it a small unproven studio, we could still see screens and gameplay without ever seeing the game in a store. At least, they has yet to show us screenshots (one, if real is nothing) and a publisher connected to Sadness before the game gets to safer water.

Don't believe it for a second. A couple of no name sites somehow have info on a game that the major sites don't? Seeing as how the guys from Nibris hang out on IGN's message boards I would think they would sooner talk to them then they would anyone else.

I still call vaporware.

Well I know when to eat crow. Shut my mouth and call me susy.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Release time frame? I like the black and white use since it is unqe.

Don't spoon some pulled crow onto your plate JUST yet.

Read my post above. This is a completely inexperienced dev trying to tackle a redonculously large project.

If the game comes out and delivers on promises, THEN it's time to eat crow.
