Origins is amazing, looking forward to Odyssey as well. AC II was really good as well and I enjoyed AC III and Black Flag as well. It's really a hit-or miss series for me, some games are great, some are shit, or at least close to it.

The first game was really repetitive, II and Brotherhood were great, didn't play Revelations and III killed my interest in the series for several years. I'm only just now kinda starting to consider getting back into it with Origins.

AC3 was terrible, you could tell it was the B team.
Black Flag was great, but as suggested should have taken out the assassins creed bits and just been a pirate game.
Last one was not bad but didnt play for all that long, need to get back to it at some point.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I played the original quite a bit but I ended up pretty bored. I bought the other games when they were on sale since I had a decent time with the original, but I never got around to playing mediocre games. While with AC Odyssey I plan to get very soon after launch and play through. WRPG in Ancient Greece is exactly the kind of game I want. Of course Ubisoft will probably mess it up.

With the exception of AC Unity and AC3(this one was kinda boring to me), the series has only improved over time. To me, AC4 is one of the best games in the series followed by AC2 and then Origins. What I've seen so far about AC Odyssey looks great!!!! The Assassins Creed series was and still is a great series!

I think the whole series went in the wrong direction after the first game. I mean, gameplay improved (for the most part), but tone suffered a lot. I like Origins a lot as a game but not all that much as an Assassin's Creed game. The RPG mechanics are implemented in a way that really hurts the immersion of playing as an assassin.

I thnk the first was the most interesting one. It's the only game in the series with bold design ideas and I linked the concept of gathering informations, planning and doing the execution. Althought it was quite badly polished, the formula had a lot of potential for a pure stealth game. With following games they gradually improved the technical department but they went more into the ruote of mission based action games and I lost my interest in the series very quickly.

You could change "Assassin's Creed" with "God of War" and change "Ubisoft" with "Santa Monica" and this would still be surprisingly coherent.

I've played every main one except Origins, and though i agree about the series losing it's identity/purpose/"soul" after 3's disastrous campaign, the series progressively got better gameplay wise. Black Flag is a blast, as is Rogue. Unity was kinda of bland story wise but gameplay was solid imo.

Syndicate though is my favourite of the bunch, just wish the plot and characters were more fleshed out and developed. The stealth was refined and more enjoyable (even if a bit too easy), and i even managed to finish most missions undetected, something i can't say about early titles.

II, Brotherhood and Revelations were pretty good at the time but i feel like their gameplay aged a bit. The better QOL mechanics introduced later make it hard to go back. The story, settings and characters do make up for it, though.

Black flag was one of my favorite ones. Unity was the worst, completely jank, I didn’t play more than an hour. Syndicate was okay but it didn’t catch my interest. I beat origins and I liked it but it felt hollow despite the endless missions, side content and gigantic map. There wasn’t enough mythology involved, that’s my favorite part of ancient Egypt. Odyssey looks great, there are mythological elements and you have an artifact for the length of the game. It has a lot of potential for me even though “the assassins creed” wasn’t even thought of in the time period. A Templar origin story would be amazing.
