Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Could Pokemon 2019 make use of DLC like other Nintendo titles have been?

As long as it's outfits and such I wouldn't mind. If they try locking gen 8 mythics behind a paywall or something I'll be pretty ticked, and I'm sure alot of others will as well. I would love to see an expansion where you can visit a 2nd region [nonsensical jargon]

I can't see them locking mythical behind a paywall. They have never done it and I can't see them starting now.

I dont think so, simple because we have several Pokemon game per platform, after 2019. one, in 2021. latest we will probably have onother game.

I'm just suspicious to the idea of the Poke company being able to get away with versions the same way that have in the past: The games being more expensive will be a factor for them to consider (I am fairly certain Pokemon Co understands the concept of economic curve, of how you can sell less things at 60 dollars than 40 and eventually the gains from less for more cancel out), but perhaps more importantly is the simple fact that the games will cost more to develop and take more time to make.

DLC could easily become something they try as a momentum keeping measure if they find they can't do year to year releases.

Pokemon Company: Okay, it will take us longer than expected to make these DP remakes. Have the younger teams do that 'DLC' thing to try and keep interest while we figure out how to properly render Cyrus in HD.

Younger team: Can we take feedback from fans as ideas for what to do?

Pokemon Company: Sure, why not.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Doubt it. We went from Mystery Gifts (at events or stuff), to online Mystery Gifts, to "just put everything in the game or something" in ORAS. If we see DLC, I expect like new areas/islands/something.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

They are kind of already doing it in Let's Go. Mew is only obtainable in Let's Go if you buy the $50 Pokeball Plus accessory, last I heard you can't even transfer a Mew from Pokemon Go to Let's Go through the safari zone like you can with other Pokemon from Go, and Pokemon Bank support wasn't confirmed last I checked either, so you can't transfer a banked Mew either. I just hope it stops there, would suck if they continue that trend in the 2019 game.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that Pokeball thing. I have to keep stopping myself to get on the hype-train for let's go because, beyond a fairly pretty face, the gameplay is very barebones.

I'm expecting Amiibos.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

They should do. Third versions are very anti-consumer. Should be a DLC Upgrade option for those that own the original versions. Especially now that the games will probably be $60 each not $40 like on 3ds.

The Third Version BS needs to stop, we're not on the GB/GBA anymore, you can release updates and dlc.

Got any examples of taken away content? I mean off the top of my head the main issues seem to be the SM National Dex and post game content (which I feel is arguable).

You talking about things that were in one game but not in others, like Bug Catching Contests, Pokemon Contests, and Friend Safaris?

I loved every game from Gen I through to B2/W2, but the 3DS games have been bland as hell. The way Game Freak removes features every generation is unacceptable compared to most games that continue to build on previous entries. Just think of everything they've taken out over the years:

  • Day/Night System (From Gen III)
  • Seasons
  • Dexnav
  • Poketch/Pokenav/Pokegear
  • National Dex
  • PSS
  • Dream World
  • Pokemon following behind you
  • Diving
  • Soaring
  • Rebattling trainers/gym leaders
  • Contests/Pokethlon/Musicals/Pokewood
  • Triple Battles/Rotation Battles
  • Underground
  • Secret Bases
  • Battle Frontier
  • Game Corner
  • Hordes
  • Altering music depending on the situation in battle
  • Super Training
  • O-Powers
  • Mirage Spots
  • Hall of Fame PC

There's more that I can't be bothered listing. GF are the kings of taking one step forwards then one MASSIVE LEAP backwards.

Then now, with LGPE:

  • 700 Pokemon, including those related to the ones being included in the game (not even FRLG left out non-Kanto pokes; it at least included them in the post-game)
  • Breeding
  • Abilities
  • Hold Items
  • Wonder Trade
    Trades with Strangers
Battles with Strangers (all of these require friend codes)
  • Wild Battles
Now I know, LGPE aren't mainline, blah blah blah, but if their definition of mainline is S/M, then they're damn close to it. I've got little faith at all that Pokemon 2019 will have 'basic' Pokemon features, I can't see them making DLC at all honestly, after all, as far as their profits are concerned, $20 for DLC < $60 for the same game, but with slight changes (or no changes, in USUM's case), a year or two later.

Then just stick with the original Pokemon games since the new ones have so many fewer features.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Well, I can see a pokemon lets go johto in 2020, the 3rd version of pokemon 2019 in 2021, lets go hoenn in 2022 and pokemon DP remake in 2023.
I hope they alse give the option to buy the the 3rd version of 2019 game as a DLC for those who already have the 2019 game, if you dont want to buy the 2021 game.
Lets go johto and hoeen could be as DLCs too for those who bought lets go kanto.
