Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales (Week 32) Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - August 06-August12, 2018

System |  This Week |  Last Week |  Last Year |     YTD        |  Last YTD    |     LTD

NSW     |     50.143    |     50.799    |     87.798 |  1.514.673 |  1.436.031 |   4.827.292

Looks like Switch just won't drop from 50k even with no new releases. Few more weeks and it will be at 5 million and looks like it will stay up year over year despite last year's Splatoon 2 bump now that the worst is over.

13./15. [NSW] Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker <ADV> (Nintendo) {2018.07.13} (¥3.980) - 10.875 / 90.123 (+38%)

Captain doing work.

17./16. [NSW] Kirby Star Allies <ACT> (Nintendo) {2018.03.16} (¥5.980) - 7.657 / 587.496 (+9%)

Kirby is almost at 600k, a million is definitely possible lifetime.

Around the Network

Yakuza boosts PS4 and the mid-tier releases for Switch (Okami and Layton) keep the momentum stable. And WarioWare Gold seems to have legs.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

Correct, its a remaster not a remake.

I just watched some gameplay on YouTube and it's more like a direct port. No wondered why it kinda bomb but really can't compare this to past yakuza games first week sales

Maybe, im just saying its not a remake like Yakuza 1 & 2 were.

All blue like the Wii/DS days. But why? Nothing really big has come out in a long time. Is it just do to the portability?

Nothing has come out in a long time? 10 of the 16 Nintendo games on the chart released this summer.

Here is the week 31 update in terms of the two big consoles in Japan's path to be able to reach the commonly stated (in these sales threads) estimates for 2018 sales (2 mil for PS4, 4 mil for Switch) .

  TWS GD YTD AWN (Change)
PS4 22,026 -21,628 1,105,275 44,736 (+1082)
Switch 50,143 -70,593 1,514,673 124,266 (+3530)

TWS - This week's sales
GD - Goal differential, the difference between the average week needed from last week compared to this week's sales
YTD - Units sold in 2018 so far including this week's sales
AWN - Average weekly sales needed to reach the estimate for the console.

Not much change as PS4 stays around ~20k and Switch around ~50k. The AWN is starting to accelerate more rapidly as fewer weeks remain. Next week's numbers will be Obon. Switch should do really well that week.

Around the Network

Zelda BotW imo has the best legs in years. Most impressive, followed by Minecraft on Vita (this game was the sole reason vita kept alive in 2016) and then splatoon 1 on wiiu. Just crazy

Honorable mentions...

Nier
Splat2
Evergreen switch games (DBXV2 ex)
Yokai Watch 1

I am surprised at the results of Famitsu. I want to know the result of Dengeki quickly.

Is Obon known for big hardware boosts? I was thinking it was smaller than Golden Week.

Octopath Traveller still holding strong.

I'm not too sure. I'm just going by what the MC thread on resetera has been saying for awhile. Since it's like a full week of holidays and Japan loves to shop on holidays there should be a a pretty big increase.
