Dreamcast released alongside N64 and PS1 a full two years before the PS2 it's still considered the same gen as the latter.

No, you're wrong. PS4 Pro was released in late 2016, the Switch in march 2017 and the One X late 2017. That's what I call "alongside".

And for the Dreamcast, 4 years after the PS1 and the Saturn isn't "alongside" to me.

PS4 pro is a different model PS4 not a new platform no different to PS1 having the PSOne models which released shortly after the DC and so on or PS2 having the PSX and slim models that came out as the 360 was arriving Switch is not a different model WiiU it's a new separate platform.

I'm not wrong here your logic is flawed because as PS4 goes we go by its original release back in 2013.

No.The Switch is a 9th gen console.

but it belongs to the same generation as the PS4 / XB1......So its a 8th gen? imo.

No it is not 8th gen. Graphical power =/= equal console generation.

On the same hand... how can a console much weaker than the PS4/XB1, with older tech, be a gen ahead?

WiiU is 8th gen NS is 9th gen no need to complicate things.

a generation, is a "group" something belongs to.
Would you group the NS with the PS4/XB1? since its selling alongsides them?
Or the PS5/XB2 (which arnt out for another 2 years?)

Face it, it belongs to the same generation of consoles as the PS4 & XB1 = 8th gen.

Does it really though Dreamcast was out with the PS1 and N64 for two years before the PS2 arrived and 3 years before GC and Xbox it's still classed in the gen with the latter and its participation in the latter gen was very short. It's clear NS will be around long into the PS5/X4 era as well.

NS is a 9th gen platform as a successor to an 8th gen platform that's what it comes down to.

I group NS as a 9th gen because it succeeds an 8th gen platform as a new platform, nothing complicated about it.

all I can say is if thats how you see it, then gens dont matter at all.... just call it Nintendo's 9th console or whatever.
A generation only makes sense if you look at a group.
It clearly doesnt belong with the PS5/XB2.

If the Switch spends more time competing with the PS4/X1 than with the PS5/X2, I'd say it's 8th gen.

Then I name the PS4pro & XB1X as 9th gen too... and PS5/XB2 will be the 10th gen!
It doesnt make sense just cus you say something.

A gen can have more than 1 console in it, Nintendo Wii U time was just so short, they had 2 consoles in their 8th gen.

Except if we go by your logic here Megadrive/Genesis would be in the same group as NES, Saturn and PS1 would be grouped with SNES, DC and N64 would be grouped by themselves and so on. I don't get the logic you're trying to push here because as being a successor to an 8th gen platform makes it 9th gen the's no real argument against that and the is nothing that says it's not to be grouped with PS5/XB4 because it'll will be here long after PS4/XB1.
