Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bethesda May Not Release The Elder Scrolls: Legends On Systems That Don't Allow Crossplay

"Hines replied, "It is our intention in order for the game to come out, it has to be those things on any system. We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing. The way the game works right now on Apple, Google, Steam, and Bethesda.net, it doesn't matter where you buy your stuff, if you play it on another platform that stuff is there. It doesn't matter what platform you play on, you play against everyone else who is playing at that moment. There's no 'Oh, it's easier to control, or it has a better framerate on this system.' It's a strategy card game. It doesn't matter."

I asked him if that meant there's a chance it won't come out on PlayStation 4 if Sony doesn't change its stance. "We continue to talk to all of our platform partners," Hines added. "But those [terms] are essentially non-negotiable.  We can't be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or its walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about.""

If this catches on and more big publishers do this we might see systems that don't allow crossplay begin to.

I do understand his terms. Basically they doesn't want to create an anti-consumer setting were you have an account being shared to all different platforms and then this one system were it doesn't. While I don't believe most Sony fans will mind much,a game not hitting the console all together because the manufacturer didn't open up for the devs' requests kinda reminds me of the N64 days...

Yeah they're going to ignore 81.2 million users...lol. Nice PR move though Bethesda

What? Do you really think no PS4-owner has a phone? Or a computer?

A gutsy move but understandable they wouldn't want their players to be sabotaged like some Fortnite players were not long ago.

Well, this is interesting. As far as sharing an account across all platforms for the purpose tracking of progress/save data/purchased items, it's totally reasonable, and Sony should  allow it. As far as the cross-play goes, I hope Sony tells Bethesda to cram it with walnuts. I mean, that IS what's going to happen here. Gifs unrelated.

If they really had balls they would make that statement about Fallout 76. But no its about an insignificant card game instead. So that shows how much Bethesda really cares.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Pretty much this.  They are just puffing their chest, likely to turn attention away from their recent used game scandal.

We do, but not all of us like to play big games on our phone or computer.

Legends is the right game to do that. As it also releases on mobile, pretty much everyone with a PS4 still has a chance to play it. Also everything what Sony might have to say about user experience (different frame rates, controllers or the like on different platforms) falls flat for Legends, as it will not really matter for gameplay experience. So Sony on the one hand has no real argument to defend their stance and Bethesda on the other side does not really loses money here.

So, Legends is a big game now?
