Forums - Gaming Discussion - DOOM Eternal show at Quakecon, coming to PS4, XONE, PC and Switch

Loving the additional colors in this! Not too much colors which is appropriate considering the subject matter but great to see!...

I just wish TotalBiscuit were here to see this.

Looks pretty damn incredible.

The shotgun has a grappling hook. He's got a big fucking knife on his arm.

Nice even to the switch... guess the latest patch for Unreal engine really paid off.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Switch is a nice surprise! a lot of people were wondering if it was gonna get ported after the first, probably means it sold well enough for them to port this one over too

Bethesda really is going all in on the Switch, to think they went from not releasing any games on Nintendo systems for years to already releasing 4 AAA games (by the time DOOM Eternal comes out) just on Switch alone is such an amazing turnaround of support towards Nintendo from them

I hope this somehow leads to DOOM guy getting into Smash lmao :P, would love that like I said in the Smash character thread

DOOM Switch doesn't use Unreal engine.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Good for Bethesda Fans on Switch.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

So, if the gameplay was any indication, should we expect on Switch a visual quality and performance similar to the Wolfenstein II port? Some cuts in the scenary, maybe? Who knows, but hopefully they can get closer to the levels of the DOOM port.

i think they make different choice for Wolfenstein 2 than for doom, because they were not after the same goal. Doom wanted to be fast and action packed, while wolfeinstein needed more atmosphere and less fast paced.

If this is going to be a big AAA gen 8 title releasing on Switch day and date as the other platforms, that's uncanny. Definitely going to supporting a move like this.

If they do that, i think it will be the first AAA current gen title to get out on the switch at the same time for switch and other platforms. It's actually a pretty big deal. Also, now we will see how well a third party AAA title sell on switch, because it will have the same chance at the starting gate, and not released months later.

So what does it use?

It uses some custom engine specifically built for Switch, which there isn't a name for.

I would think porting Doom 2016 for example simply involved downscaling things from the console/pc version of the game. Or maybe the custom engine is just a downscaled version of the console Doom engine...

Dunno, whatever. As long as it works, who cares?
