Hm, but every Smash so far as seen huge graphical improvement, the Switch-version doesn't really look that different from WiiU

That so much you could do with a console of the size of your hand

Pretty much this. The Switch is more powerful than the Wii U, but not by much. This isn't going from Wii to Wii U in terms of graphical power.

It's really weird. People also called Smash 4 a port. Leading into it's release people were calling it Brawl 2.0. I don't understand, do people want them to scrap literally everything and have no returning characters and stages?

???

Explain please

I mean, I don't think it's a bad thing per sé. But as far as I know, Ultimate does not have any new, original content. It's like Every Smash game packed together and remastered. Earlier entries all had new stages, characters and mechanics.

Ultimate has new stages, characters and mechanics already confirmed. Didn't you pay attention?

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

It's totaly new, anyone saying otherwise are either lying to themselves or just trolling.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

thats false. they openly admitted that a great deal of SSB4's code was used to make Ultimate as a way to save development time. they then tweaked the game and reworked assets from there

Yes, and them having begun work with Smash 4 as a foundation rather than from scratch is the reason why we're ending up with such an amazing game. Just because they didn't start from scratch doesn't mean it's a port though, as it features new modes, new characters, new stages, new items, new assist trophies, new assets, new moves, and new mechanics, along with loads of tweaks and major changes to existing assets and mechanics and characters etc.

But this should go without saying.

i never said it was a port. there is no denying it anymore that its a new game. it just reused a lot of code to save production time

that last smash direct proved more than enough that it wasn't just a port

Is Fifa 19 a port of Fifa 18? No.

The asset reuse argument is HILARIOUS when you consider the ratio of old to new assets is probably better in Ultimate than Smash 4.

Yes, Smash 4 had more new stages and all the characters had entirely new meshes vs Ultimate only having some new meshes (I think) but all new textures.

However, Smash 4 brought all the Braw and Melee and even N64 stages forward essentially untouched. Smash Ultimate is the first Smash to massively improve the look of stages. People are obsessively comparing the character models when the reason they have only modestly improved is because much more resources were poured into stage detail. Look at Peach's castle Ultimate vs Melee. Look at Bridge of Eldin Ultimate vs Smash 4. Compare Onett. All returning stages have been remastered not just with new textures but new everything. Including the 3DS stages which have been completely recreated and brought up to the same standards.

The game is introducing modes that are completely new and offer new ways to experience the game. It's adding multiple new fighters. It's adjusting the feel and pace of the game, drastically altering the meta. It has a new rendering engine and post processing pipeline.
This is Smash 5. End of story.

There should be a top 5 of most pointless VGC discussions.

The fact they finally reworked the old stages is my favorite thing so far with SSBU. I found SSB4 so lazy that I skipped it.

Actually, I think most of the character models in Smash 4 were straight ripped from Brawl as well.

That's highly unlikely due to the enormouse gulf in power.  The textures were certainpy all new and I know at least some of the meshes were.  I would have to double check, but I think all are new.  Except maybe kirby.
