Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does anyone still think smash ultimate is a port?

It sits somewhere between a port, a remaster, and an expansion. Definitely not a new game like past Smash titles were.

Really? Because at the moment it looks already like more workforce (manhours) was going into this than into every previous Smash title, except maybe Smash 4 (which supported two very different platforms). I'm pretty sure budget is higher than Smash 1-3.

A port? No. Just reused some assets.

It definitely is not a port. The engine they used for the game was completely built from the ground up

Some? You mean every assets.

it has ALL the old melee assets, smash 4 and new assets.

THEY EVEN SAID in the direct that they will keep some n64 stages in their original form for nostalgia.

Not to mention all the old music from every game so far.

Its a port of every smash game. The ultimate smash.

Depends on how many of the assets are reused.

It’s a port of every smash game.

Yes mate, because they reused the assets of smash games which came out decades ago.

Maybe they'll stop if we don't have a thread about it every day.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Nintendo didn't made the situation much better with almost Trump-like "no port" type comments during the E3 presentation, but it seems to be every bit the new game that I was hoping for. If the "spirit" mode ends up being what I hope it is - this will be as big of a jump as almost any Smash game.

The Melee, Brawl and Smash 4 (especially the 3DS ones) stages are all built from the ground up with new assets actually... There's even a ton of graphical improvements on the Wii U stages.

Only the N64 stages are kept in their original form, but that doesn't mean SSBU is a port of the N64 game, now does it?

It has plenty of new characters and stages as well, so yeah... Not to mention all the new modes and changes to the fighting mechanics.

I don't think people know what a port is because SBBU isn't one...

Huh? No they didn't. The main ideas for the stages maybe, but the textures and assets have been completely redone and the modes are new as well?

By your logic The Sims 4 is a port of The Sims 3 is a port of The Sims 2 is a port of The Sims; Super Mario World is a port of Super Mario Bros 3; Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire are ports of Crystal. It makes no sense

I was being sarcastic y’all lol.

The game isn’t even running the same engine as smash 4.
