There should be a top 5 of most pointless VGC discussions.

5. Is Nintendo switch a handheld? Or a console?

4. Is Nintendo Switch 9 gen?

3. Is Smash Ultimate a port?

2. Is Nintendo Switch doomed?

1. Should Nintendo go full 3rd party?

Well that much is true.

Though I do feel like the particular design they're rolling with is one of his least interesting.

Yeah Ridley's design in Ultimate doesn't look good at all, but it doesn't really matter because Meta Ridley is an option and he looks great.

I guess you could only do so much while trying to fit him into Smash so he doesn't feel too big, considering the type of character he is, a vicious fighter.

I get the presentation went a little too long, but I think the changes being noted weren't that boring to me and I didn't see that boredom from video reactions. People wanted to know what changed anyway. It's cool seeing Ganondorf finally use a sword, its cool seeing the various costumes from certain characters, its cool seeing Pokemon Trainer able to switch between Pokemon seemlessly. I think the new techniques and such would have likely affected people more negatively than the character changes because those are more for hardcore fans, not the casual fans that care very little about directional air dodging and the difference between 1-on-1 damage and free-for-all damage.

And apparently, it didn't affect the game or the Switch that much negatively anyway, as Switch sales doubled according to Game Stop post-E3 thanks to Smash Bros. and Pokemon; and Ultimate immediately shot up the COMG charts, even though first party Switch games have tended to do more than what COMG provides on the preorder charts.

So maybe the negative talk about Smash at E3 here is a bit more anecdotal as the sales and preorder results have shown otherwise.

Again, you're missing my point.  The presentation didn't go on too long.  The one this week was longer, didn't have the advantage of presenting the new concept, didn't have the advantage of showing the first-ever gameplay footage, and yet didn't drag.  The problem was in the presentation itself.  They focused on the wrong stuff.  Yes, some people are interested in the nuance of the characters, but going through a disconnected laundry list for ten minutes is a surefire way of losing the general audience.

And, again, there was consumer confusion as to whether it was a port or not.  We acknowledge that was a terrible mistake in the Wii U unveiling, yet we don't acknowledge it here?

As for the negative talk.  It's not just anecdotal, it was pretty much a consensus.  I've seen no evidence that the Switch saw a boost in its sales in June.

Switch sold over 300K in June and GameStop reported sales doubled after E3.

Again, I didn't think the changes being noted were disconnected. And the very at least, I didn't see it from the various video reactions on YouTube. Granted it isn't a consensus, but there are a decent amount of people who didn't appear to be bored of it from what I saw from YouTube reactions.

We can agree to disagree with what Ultimate did at E3.

Heh, something like that. And all Nintendo topics.

Its clearly a port. Uses same engine and many of the old characters and maps are brought back. It's not a new game.

So you're saying that Tekken 7 is also a port of Tekken 6?

It used a new engine, it was the first in the series to use Unreal

So this is Brawl's third port, then?

Yeah, I would call it an upgrade more than a port, but it's not a brand new standalone game. It's equivalent to GTA 4 DLC's.

Oh, well, now of course that makes it a new game. So that means Uncharted 2 is a port of Uncharted 1, right?
