Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Storm knocked out my power last night, but the Switch keeps on gaming

I rarely have power outages in my house that take more than a few seconds to come back. So all the sacrifices done going from PS4Pro to Switch just for the safety on power outages don't lose 15 min of the last save and plus keep playing for the few moments the electricity isn't back doesn't make it worth for me.

I wasn't big into portable gaming though I have owned every portable Nintendo has made except for the DS until the Switch made me a believer. My 2DS XL covered me for months during the power outage from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Once the power came back on in February I found myself playing PS4 as usual but with limited time since my toddler uses the TV to watch his cartoons. I got a Switch in mid February mainly for BotW. I have to say that after playing the game for more than 105 hours, I have played about 90 of those hours in portable mode. The game looks fantastic on the big screen but I have found that the smaller screen is nearly as good with the added play anywhere convinience. Power regularly goes out here so it has been a fine investment and my gaming time has increased.

Same here.  I'm finishing games at a much more rapid pace which allows me to play and complete more games than I possibly could have otherwise.  I was actually 1,252 miles away from my home tv when I finished Breath of the Wild (while I was on vacation last year!).  I started playing a game this Sunday, and my save file says I've already logged over 12 hours into it.  Meanwhile, I was only home 2 of those nights.

Yes I can relate I live in the virgin islands and we were hit by 2 cat 5 hurricanes last year. my switch helped a great deal in keeping me and my kids occupied as we were without power for couple months

I will now pay 320 euros for Wii U specifications and buy more expensive, heavily downgraded Bethesda games released a year later than other versions in case my power goes down for a few minutes once every 10 years.

4minuets once every 8+ years (in my case).... I wouldnt call it a huge benefit atleast.

Not every individual is going to have the same living experience.  In my case, I've lived in this house for 7 years.  One hurricane knocked out our power for 3 days.  I gamed heavily on my 3DS to pass the time those nights.  A storm very recently, within the past couple of months knocked it our for almost 24 hours.

3h battery hardly helps on 3 days power outtage.

Portability is one reason to own a Switch. BotW itself was worth every dollar about $430 since the Island has a 11.5 tax on goods and I bought a carrying case. Also the Switch version of Skyrim is superior to the 360/PS3 version though I admit inferior to the Ps4/XOne version of the game. That being said I can't play the superior PS4 version in my lunch break, which would make the Switch version the more practical version for me.The Switch is not for everyone but BotW and Mario Oddyssey are game experiences of a lifetime, so I highly recommend the system as I am very pleased with it.

Damn,  I guess I was one of the few "lucky" ones.  I was without power for only 18 days after the hurricane.  I don't think a NS would've work with me in this situation.  I didn't have an electric generator (I live in a condo), so the NS would've only work for a couple of hours.

Yeah I live in the mountain regions. But I charged my 2DS with a car charger. A USB Cable would work for the Switch in a similar situation.
