Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales (Week 31) Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - July 30- August 05, 2018

Great hardware for Switch and doing really well for software too.
45/50k average during summer is pretty great tbh especially without huge games.

Around the Network

SW baseline: 39303 (2x PS4 baseline) (up from last week)

PS4 baseline: 17834 (same as last week)

Another week with 50k+ for Switch

Switch is having one swell Summer in Japan.

Monster Hunter World doesn't have legs, Splatoon 2 will quickly become the best selling game of the generation in Japan

NS baseline seems to have now settled at around the 50k region, Splatoon 2 as crazy as it may sound could actually go on to hit 4m LT in Japan alone.

I honestly expected more for Etrian Oddysey, but it did good nonetheless.

Octopath doing great as always, and it is still sold out. This game is going to do so much better than Xc 2, at least in Japan.

Great hadrware for Switch, decent for PS4.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Here is the week 31 update in terms of the two big consoles in Japan's path to be able to reach the commonly stated (in these sales threads) estimates for 2018 sales (2 mil for PS4, 4 mil for Switch) .

  TWS GD YTD AWN (Change)
PS4 19,002 -23,532 1,083,249 43,654 (+1120)
Switch 50,799 -66,758 1,464,530 120,736 (+3008)

TWS - This week's sales
GD - Goal differential, the difference between the average week needed from last week compared to this week's sales
YTD - Units sold in 2018 so far including this week's sales
AWN - Average weekly sales needed to reach the estimate for the console.

Slight bump for both systems. PS4 needs to average ~45k over the remaining 20 weeks to hit its goal and Switch needs to average ~120k to hit its goal. Obon should take effect in Weeks 32 and 33, so looking forward to see how that changes things.

Great numbers for switch, momentum increasing about the right time as well with no obvious SW movers.

Octopus traveller, lol. The sales for OT have actually gone up from last week which goes to show that it's really a supply issue that dictates the sales in Japan from the title.

Signature goes here!

What is the next big Switch release for Japan?

Forgive my ignorance, but Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is the XX right?

Should be Pokemon or unless you count Super Mario Party as Big.

I would consider Super Mario party big in Japan, Party games sell insanely well there. I could see it boosting system sales it's launch day.
