Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why does GT not get any acclaim in mainstream media?

I've seen it happen with Rainbow 6: Siege, For Honor and No Man's Sky that the media is initially against these games and don't like them due to lacking content but with enough content updates they change their minds. GT Sport released last year and the only complaints were relating to the lack of content.

GT Sport didn't have a campaign and lacked in the number of cars and tracks. There are 50 new cars in the next 9 months and like 5 new tracks with new versions of existing tracks. There is an entire fully featured campaign. Its getting new cars and track at the end of July. No one seems to care. What's going on? It'll likely have another 40 cars this year and lots of tracks.

I don't see why the media isn't re reviewing the game. The old reviews are utterly outdated. They have done it for Rainbow 6 and are doing it with lots of games. Its time they do it to GT Sport.

Because racing games are niche.

Re reviewing something is not really a thing.(ok not really sure).... unless the re release under a new title or new platform... like adding "deluxe" or something

Nope it is recently you got to thank Ubisoft for bringing it to the mainstream. But it goes as far as the MMO bloom period.

The game already has sold more than most games ever will.

Racing games have really been getting the cold shoulder recently, GT Sport and Forza 7 both need a revisit. But there are so many games coming out maybe it isn't worth their time unless payed to do so?.
GT Sport for its new content, and Forza 7 for getting rid of loot boxes that to me personally didn't hurt the game. But the market is slowly drifting away from the racing genre it feels like. GT Sport and Forza Horizon being the last fighters as the top sellers in the genre, and therefore mainstream media might not care to cover any of them unless there is a big update coming out, because barely anyone would read the articles or watch the videos.

It has become a very niche market, and the media isn't focused on it unless there is something 'controversial' like lootboxes in Forza 7 (Even though you could never buy them with real money to begin with). Or 'lack of content' in GT Sport. Albeit only 1 of those two actually suffered from the controversy in terms of sales (Forza 7).

Because even with all the new content its still under par for today's racing scene.
Forza 5 copped the same criticism, should that game get re-reviewed? Still sitting on a 79 from launch.

Even with content being added at a steady pace, GT Sport is still a weak GT title with less content and customization than fans wanted and demanded. GT Sport's premise was a mistake and has taken the series in a direction no one asked for. The career mode is still really poor, there are way fewer cars than in many past titles and the customization, and tuning aspects in particular, are just piss poor.
Still waiting, and hoping, for GT 7. But I saw the danger signs already with GT 6, how they seemingly wanted to focus a lot more on online and make the series something it was never about. And it's not like they're being rewarded for embracing the "future", sales have steadily dwindled with each installment in the main series for some time now.

Im' not sure yet whether GT Sport is the main GT title this gen or if Polyphony will make a GT7 for that role, following previous gens' GT naming convention. Maybe neither reviewers are.
