Those categories say nothing about a person as a gamer, they're only representative of a person as a trophy hunter. Those are different things.

Honestly, one of the perks of mods is that they often disable trophies, which means that people trying to read my "gamer type" from my trophy list are only indulging in their own ignorance.

I dunno, I can get a pretty good read of what kind of gamer someone is by looking at which trophies they have unlocked.  If they only unlock ones that come naturally for example, I can see that they are not trophy hunters and simply play the core game as they see fit.  That goes for all categories inbetween as well.

And mods only applies to PC, so as far as consoles go, they are still completely relevant.  ;)

I guess I'm sometimes hardcore sometimes story gamer.

339 Games Played
26 Completed Games
43.87% Completion
6,194 Unearned Trophies
1.54 Trophies Per Day
Trophy level 26
Platinum trophies 21

Finally a 'normal' game has made it into my rarest trophy list, GT Sport!
However I'm so hardcore with GT Sport atm that I've only played God of War (story complete) and Detroit become human (story not complete) in between.

Mixture between story and casual. I game hop a lot so I might start a game and move on to another game. I got NMS earlier this week and played 3 hours and moved on. But if it's a game I'm really into I'll finish the campaign.

I dont think that achievments tell anything about a gamer. You can be a absolutly hardcore gamer without any archievments, i found it a nice when microsoft released it for their x360 in 2005, but i never played a game to get achievments. In my opinion you are a hardcore gamer if you try to play a game perfect and not to collect all achievments.
Example: if you played BF1 since release 1k+ hours you are a hardcore gamer, but if you dont play the story you dont will get 50% of the achievments and if you played it 1k+ hours since release you dont will play many other games and dont will collect alot of achievments, in your opinion theese people are casual but they not!

If people see my trophies they would think I'm somewhere between trophy hunter and hardcore. But I don't personally care much about trophies or platinums, I like them as a record of what I've played, and I appreciate that they can give people reasons to come back to a game or try out something they normally wouldn't in a game, but for me personally I have over 15 games that I'm so close to getting a platinum in but I haven't bothered, just because I dont care, also how much I love a game doesn't play a role on if I platinum them either.

Though I do make it a habit to platinum every souls game that comes out for some reason.

There are exceptions to the rule of course.  Call of Duty where many people do not play single player is a good example.  When it comes to games like that though, they usually have a reputation that goes with it.  If that is all they play, then they fall under Masters of Their Trade.

Most games however have trophies and achievements that do pretty well at tracking how you play the game.  Like what side content do you complete, did you complete the main story, do you play stealth or guns blazing, there is pretty much something for everything.

Also one thing to keep in mind is that I am not talking about judging off of one or two games.  The average of several games and the content they have completed does a very good job telling how someone would play.  So if they play ten games for example, but because they skipped the story in CoD, the data gathered from the other nine games does not become invalid.

Another reason you have to look at several games is because what if they did not like a game and quit early?  You need to look at their overall habits between several games to get an accurate picture.  So the argument of looking at one or two games falls flat, as that is not what this topic is about.

i think achievments only tell about gamer who cares about them, and in my opinion the real hardcore gamer play online/ pvp/ in a team but also solo and try to improve their skills.  (i never saw a achievment for this) then you dont have the time to play other games and complete some achievment. Achievments or trophies are  like a drug, i saw people who had a lot of fun with a game through the moment they got their last achievments then in the next moment the game was no longer fun for them :(. what was the next step? right you have to buy a dlc or a new game thats the reason why achievments and trophies are existing. and then they could ttry to get more achievments and so on.  if you think i have a problem with this kind of stuff you are right. Normally people should play because of their story or the gameplay that makes fun to them not to get this weird achievments or trophies.

A game has to be really amazing to me... If I am going to go out of my way to collect everything and unlock every achievement.
Thus far only a couple of games fit that description.... Like Dragon Age.

Guess i'm Hardcore which, based on responses in this thread, is actually the mainstream. I stopped paying attention to trophies years ago though. I've disabled the notifications for them on every platform I play on.
