Forums - Sales Discussion - Do Not Buy a Phone From LG

So I originally got my phone contract in November 2016 for a Oneplus 3t.

Beautiful phone, worked perfectly, great battery life, great features, fast etc. Only complaints I had with it was no optimal image stablisation, but other than that it was basically perfect for well over a year.

Now the phone screen smashed so I called my insurance from o2 to get it replaced the next day, they told me that they had none and it had been discontinued and basically it wouldn't be worth waiting for a phone so they gave me a list of phones to choose from.

Form what I remember the options were an LG G5, Xperia M3 and some other phone that was very low range.

Naturally the LG G5 seemed like the better choice on paper as it had the best specs, large screen, 1440p display, OIS, dual camera etc.

Boyyy was I wrong.

Phone worked well for about a month or so but I instantly noticed that the battery life was terrible, I had to leave the house with a charger if I was out all day.

So I'm about 5 months deep into having this phone and it's literally breaking apart inside. It's perfectly fine from the outside no major scratches, screen in perfect condition I've really looked after it but as of now this is the list of issues in order of happening.

Major device slowdown and Lag
Battery life getting worse
Major screen ghosting
Phone call microphone no longer works, only the louderspeaker microphone
I have bluetooth headphones I cannot use cause when the Bluetooth is on on this phone for longer than 10 minutes the wifi drops
Headphone jack doesn't properly handshake anymore
The fingerprint scanner literally doesn't work anymore, the only good consistent thing about the phone was the fingerprint scanner being very quick and responsive every time. it started rejecting and now it completely is unresponsive and the software has noticed this and has completely taken the option away in the settings.

Also the phone doesn't even have ANDROID N. It's still on 2016 software. Android P is being rolled out yet this phone doesn't even have Oreo.

Safe to say I cannot wait till I am finally rid of this phone and will be picking up the OnePlus 6t as soon as it releases later this year (if the pattern continues).

have been rocking an LG G2 for 4 years now, the only complaint I have is that weirdly enough the amount of rows on in a text-editor app (tried several free apps) seems to be limited in landscape mode but unlimted in horizontal, but other than that I have no reason to upgrade for my use cases

Have you considered doing a factory reset and seeing if you can avoid installing whichever software it was that started to cause problems for the phone, or look at rooting the device and getting a custom OS which is more directly suited to this handset?

Sounds very much like most (except the fingerprint scanner, but those are notorious on a load of models for breaking) of your issues are software related and could possibly be fixed with some maintenance of the device more so than a thread telling people not to buy LG products.

The ghosting screen isn't software related as if I send someone a screenshot they don't see it.

So out of all the issues I have the only ones that can be fixed with a reset would be the speed and battery but the battery was bad out of the box anyway.

The fact that I cannot use my Bluetooth headphones with this phone without the wifi dropping, my broken microphone meaning I have to use loudspeaker to talk on the phone as well as the headphone jack no longer working properly even the charging port is starting to go loose.

Meanwhile the headphone jacks and charging port on my 4 year old dualshock 4 that I use daily works fine so I cant see how that could be me, plus the fact the OS is from 2016 and we're over halfway through 2018 gives me no faith in LG at all.

The bluetooth / wifi issue you're having could be coming from software too as they might be interupting each other somehow... Bluetooth and Wifi would use separate antenna's in that phone though, there is a chance one of them might have become lose from the MoBo of the phone and be touching the other antenna inside, if you happened to drop the phone really (almost to the point of breaking it) hard on the ground one of these might have slipped off where it should be, the ifixit review of the device is an 8/10 for being able to get into it.

It does have wifi/bluetooth worked into a single chip but it would still be using different antennas from the top and bottom parts of this board pictured.

Also they go into the battery being a fairly easily replaceable part in this, if you would be interested in maybe swapping that out and seeing if that would solve that issue for you?

with just a quick check I think this is the right replacement one, you should double check model number to be sure with your own handset first just in case I'm wrong with the link, but...

talking about an extra 1550 Mah to your current battery, for 20quid gonna at least give you a few extra hours and let it last a full day of use if not more.

Pics and opening information gotten from

Great site for phone repair info and teardowns.

There is a fair few comments relating to this model and Wifi/Bluetooth issues btw, not a super high amount but it isn't a unique to you issue to be sure.

If you want a reliable phone, get an iPhone next time (or at least a Motorola/Samsung one).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

No.

At least not if he put off by this experience because of a refusal to repair his original phones damage, that is an area that Apple are notoriously bad for even going so far as to try to sue third parties and prevent them from offering iphone repairs. And reported earlier this year for attempting (successfully in places) to brick phones which had been repaired without Apples permission.

Really? I had an issue with an iPhone 7 Plus last year (and with an Apple Watch series 2 as well). They gave me new devices without asking too much, and on both times the process took less than 2 hours (from booking to getting the new device). I don't know any friends that had issues with repairing their products at Apple Stores either, and when the product's warranty is over, they even offer you the chance to buy a new product for a much cheaper price. I honestly can't imagine a better service than that.

The only thing you have to be careful is to only take your Phone to an official Apple Store, instead of resorting to unnofficial places. But I can't see how that would be a problem since they offer many possibilities.

Could it be that O2 just gave you a refurbished phone instead of a new one? Could explain a lot of your problems imo, especially if it saw very heavy use with a previous user.
