Those are baby steps when compared to the high jumps show on the thread.

Nope 2 to 4 is a huge difference and not just in the visual department since the games run of a different engine.

Indeed the lighting, models and sounds were all pretty much redone from the ground up. Still for me personally I think that my post regarding Sonic on the megadrive is graphically the biggest leap, objectively speaking it goes from a 2d 2 frame run to one amazingly smooth 3d character running. On the same hardware. Forza in my opinion is still huge leaps from 2 > 4

That post btw!

Compared that to the jump from SMB1 to SMB3 level of perceived difference no, it is minimal changes.

Okay I get your point but graphics aren't everything FM4 also plays a lot better then FM2.  SMB3 only plays slightly better then SMB1 but too me both games where way too hard for my liking.  Also in the case of Sonic 3D Blast the huge upgrade in graphics actually hurt the game play a lot.  It plays nowhere as good and fluid as the previous Sonic games.  Not even the Saturn version of the game plays a lot better.

Unfortunately that huge upgrade in graphics hurt the game play a ton.  Sonic 3D Blast looks good but its also one of the worst playing games on the Genesis/Mega Drive even the Saturn version doesn't offer a lot of improvements in that category.

tis why my post starts with saying "This absolutely sucks to do.... but..." This thread is just about graphics and the jump from Sonic 1 to 3d is a huge leap... however I would rather have nails hammered into my private parts than actually play it, especially over Sonic 1 which I could happily play through every other month.

Yep the OP is more about graphics.

But even if we were looking at all aspects. Even the big jumps inside the 7 year previous gen would seem minimal compared to the ones on 8 or 16 bit era, I would say that diminishing returns is a thing not exclusively for graphics.

Not same franchise. But since they are same dev on same gen I would say they would qualify for evolution.

There is a big difference (as did the FM2 to FM4 or H3 to H4), a lot of eye candy, but still compared to previous gen they are almost "neglible"

Aliens vs. Predator (PS3) - 2010

Alien Isolation (PS3) - 2014

We now have leaked gameplay from a few rumored cross gen games and some people are "disappointed by the graphics for not looking next gen".

People have so poor memory that you wonder if it's intentional.
