Forums - Nintendo Discussion - To those who say Octopath is not worth 60 dollars...

What is your reasoning behind this?  Having read many reviews where in 50 hours only 2 of the eight paths had been completed with the others 50 percent or more to go, how are you not getting bang for your buck?

Having begun playing it myself, the battle system gets very deep while not making you feel overwhelmed and the plot lines themselves are also very interesting.  Seeing as how the game has quality writing and gameplay mechanics with easily over 100 hours of play, who in their right mind would think this game is over priced?

Is it because of the art style, and the classical 16 bit setting?  If so I feel sorry for you, because this game has more to offer than most of today's flashiest AAA games at base price.  If that is not the case, please elaborate because your closed mindedness could leave you missing out big time if you enjoy JRPGs and have no reason to pass on the game outside of "graphics".

People think the game is too short? No idea, I myself aren't to far advanced (have to work sometimes between play-sessions).

The graphic is very different, but I like it. But I barely justify game purchases with graphics anyways, I tend to look more into gameplay, playtime and fun.

Its the old "if it isnt 3D" or "it didn't cost 40 million to develop" it's not Worth more then 40$ mentality.. kinds sad really.

I've been playing for 20 hours and I'm having a blast especially now when I do chapter 2+ for the characters and it's hard as hell and me as a old turnbased fan love it.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Those are just poor trolls. Ignore them.

It's like the tale with "The Fox and the Grapes". Meaning: if they can't afford it, it's not worth it.

A lot of people were trying to say it could would have like 35 hours of content, but that was early on.  Now that it has been confirmed to have well over 100 hours of content, they has since put their foot in their mouths.

The main thing I see being mentioned is the graphics.  But like you, an experience is not soley based on visuals, in fact, it has the least impact of all factors.  I even see people who used to hate 16 bit style games (younger crowed) pulling a 180 and loving it after actually playing the game.  However I have a feeling people trying to downplay it in light of a "console war" and are grasping at straws at this point.

Yeah, my step son refuses to try the demo and won't play Zelda Four Swords with me because the game has "little characters".  Kid has no idea what he is missing.

But yeah, I needed a good turnbased JRPG in my life.  Too many of them try to follow the action RPG model or MMO style model.  Nothing wrong with those games, but we need more turn based games as well.

It's not AAA.

I'm just not interested in paying full price for a turn-based game.

i don’t think it has well over 100 hours... I think 80 hours probably the most.  I’m done with all the chapter 4’s and the final secret dungeon at 62 hours... I probably played the game differently then most, because I grinded past 60 before I did and chapter 2’s because I wanted the advanced jobs and then coasted through the stories, but I don’t think it would have really changed the play time that much.  I guess there are still a couple of those side quests I haven’t done... but yeah, for most part, I have done everything at 62 hours...  still a good chunk of time to be sure!

I don't think many people are saying that to begin with.
I guess at a quick first glance it might look simplistic even if it's actually pretty deep and polished.

I don't think it's worth $60, but then again, I bought it. The game really only is an upgraded 3DS title with all the flashy lighting, maps, and particle effects turned on. And I mean that. You literally go into the Unreal engine, and click a box to turn most of those things on. It doesn't take much work from the developer at all. I don't see why they couldn't have charged $50 for it like Labryinth of Refrain.

Let me beat Enter the Gungeon, and then I'll start playing it. If the gameplay is amazing I may just change my mind.
