Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is everybody's opinion on Final Fantasy Type 0?

* Btw, I have not beat the game yet so don't spoil anything passed chp7.2*

I bought Type 0 on June 21st. 115 hours later(that is more time than I sent playing XV), I am wrapping the game up pretty soon. I have not been this hooked on a Final Fantasy since 12. In regards to the "Fabula Nova Crystallis", this is the best game to come out it. Hell, I think  that Type 0 should have been the console Final Fantasy. It is kinda funny, the structure of Type 0 feels like it should have been on a console while 13 has structure that would have been right at home on a handled...

What I love about Type 0 is how takes all the classic elements of a Final Fantasy and adds a twist to all them. I geeked out when summons, who have been around since FF3, were actual playable characters in the game (They kind of were in X as well). I was pleasantly surprised to get the airship and find out that a its semi shoot em up! (think full auto mode in Star Fox but over the world map)That came out nowhere but it's awesome though!

You know what else is also unique about Type 0? Its tone. This is a considerably bleak Final Fantasy story. It is strengthened by the developers mostly avoiding "Anime - ing the war". It also helps that this is a Human story vs a good vs evil entity battle. The fear of death and death itself, is a major topic in this story game. It can get pretty depressing.

I can ramble on and on, but Type 0 has really created a new branch of Final Fantasy that is clearly Final Fantasy but very different at the same but 100% refreshing.

I played some of it. I didn't like how it had a time limit mechanic that forced progression and limited your actions.

Asking for an opinion of a game you haven't finished is very odd.

That said it is amazing. It actually has the best NG+ too. You can do the missions the "Regular" way. Or the new way. The new way adds more story, content, challenge and reward.

So beat it, then beat it again.

Bro, I am at 115 hours. I am on the final break period before what I believe is the point of no return. I think Im qualified to make this thread.

You have pique my interest. I knew there was a NG+ that added extra missions/weapons/summons but I did not know there was alternative main missions. Hmm.

It only seems that way, but it doesn't. All the important stuff can be comfortably. I dont know if you know, but if you are outside of Akademia, then time is infinite. You can abuse that.

Haven't finished it yet either, but from what I've played it's a pretty good game. Not one of the best in the series, but still enjoyable. The characters fall a bit flat and are somewhat forgettable, but the gameplay is a lot of fun, thanks to the character variety and each one playing very differently.

I think the characters are fine, but similar designs and pretty laughably bad VA hurts them a lot. Nine is funny as fuck..for the wrong reasons. Finish the game bro.

I will, eventually.

I haven't given the game a fair shake yet, but when I started I didn't think too much of it, maybe I should go back to it. I didn't like the combat or the progression of the missions, it felt too much like being forced through the story with an emphasis on replaying to see other bits of story. But I suppose my opinion on those could change, I have enjoyed some games like Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter, Lightning Returns, Majora's Mask that all relied on multiple replays and the combat is probably passable, I just didn't like it much.

I like that the developers were so excited about giving all the female characters unique underwear though. It's such an odd thing to hear a developer talking about, it just seemed genuine. I have to say character design uniqueness is another thing I thought was lacking, I'm not a fan of having 12 or so characters that have such similar designs, school uniforms at that.

Don't think I'll return to it any time soon though.

Of all the games that I played that featured some type of time management, Type 0 is the most laxed. Its almost pointless. Kinda surprised to see it mentioned as barrier. Just to reiterate - Time doesn't move unless you take a event scene in Akademia, otherwise its infinite. You can play at your leisure. Later chapters give too much time so I ended forcing the story to move on.

It's the same opinion as other Final Fantasies after Hironabu Sakaguchi split and SquareSoft became Square-Enix:

It's mediocre, forgettable time wasting fodder.
