So IGN have their video review up on YouTube and the guy seems to love it! It's got me really excited since I'm just hearing so many great things about the game, and my copy has been dispatched and will be here tomorrow! I won't be able to play it right away since I'm in the middle of another game, and want to clear some others first, but yeah... check out the review below;

That plus list hits everything on the head, although I'd also move "grindy" to it too, for me personally anyway, since I love a good ol' grind session in JRPGs, lol. As for the story, can't really say much since, well, I've not played it, but eight overlapping stories sounds pretty fun and interesting to me, even if there's no huge endgame goal they're going for or whatever.

So far, people have only critisized the structure utilized, not the stories themselves. But it's kinda confusing in itself when reading through the lowest scored reviews.

Most likely, it's a case to case, hence why you got only 4 reviews in the 70's and the rest are 80's-90's. I do think the individual stories will be great, but I guess people that expected an overarching story with a great "Final Battle against a common foe" we'll be left with a sour taste in mouth.

Mine has just arrived! :3
Can't wait to open it up and get into it!

Edit: It sounds like a little bit of a shame that the stories don't converge and tangle more past a certain point, but it is a very original choice to make and I'm willing to give the dev team a huuuge benefit of the doubt on the story, since I haven't played it yet.

Oooh lucky! :o

IGN isn't really a good site anymore, but most critics agree that it's a must own title for Switch. Currently scoring 84 on Opencritic. That's extremely high for a JRPG with the kind of visuals it has. I was worried that critics would review it harshly due to the full price tag, and the low level of graphics. Lots of sites like Metro like to give unfairly low scores for being a JRPG, and lots of sites don't realize that graphics matter little. The Disgaea games are great, but routinely score in the high seventies due to those factors. So considering that, being at 84 is absolutely golden, for Octopath.

Currently playing: Octopath Traveler

Gog.com is awesome! DRM Free and only missing a handful of PC exclusives I want.

This is the game Iíll buy a Switch for one day. The demos were utterly charming.

Do I dare ask if it ticks all your boxes to be a 'quality release' for 2018?
