Wtf am I reading???

My friend who is a Nintendo fanboy tells me everyday that Sony is dying and they have to sell buildings to keep afloat. And that their television and mobile phone business is dead and nobody should be buying them.

So how the fook are their stocks at a 10 year high??? Something must be wrong!!!!!

How the fook Sony is at a 10 year high?

Again, I can't stress enough, that Sony's focus should be on gamers. The PlayStation Phone would not be a device or Platform, that is going after 200 million sales a year. It would be a niche device just like PlayStation Home Consoles, that targets gamers with a goal of 10 - 20 million sales a year, and a userbase between 60 - 120 million. It would not be aimed at people looking for the most compact and waterproof devices, with the best selfie camera and multi-camera back cam. It would be a handheld gaming device first and foremost, with OS level support for calls and texts. It would have front and rear cameras, both to check the box, and for use in certain games.

You really think that almost every PlayStation Gamer would ditch his iPhone or Android phone and eventually go for a PlayStation phone... with all the downsides compared to other smartphones? (more weight, bigger device, harder to pocket, worse cameras, no water and dust resistance, much smaller selection of apps, some popular apps WON'T be available, already bought iOS or Android apps can't be used anymore, much more flash memory needed for bigger games, very low battery life if they game on it...)

Just to have the option to play some PlayStation games on the go on their phone? Not everybody who enjoys to play PS games at home also wants (or has time) to play these games on the go on a tiny screen... or carry around a bigger and heavier than necessary device 24/7, if they only want to play on it once or twice a week. Console gaming at home is only one of their hobbies, not their live purpose that everything revolves around.

60 - 120 million is anywhere from half to one to one. However, if they sold anywhere between 60 & 120 million, I know that there would be 10's of millions PS Phone owner that are not PS Home console owners, and there would be 10's of millions of PS Home console owners that don't buy a PS Phone. Different people want different thing. Some people only want a single mobile device that does everything with no home devices, some what a basic mobile device and a computer at home, some want a do all mobile device and a smart tv. There are billions of different consumers, all very different needs.

There is a market for portable gaming devices. Sony and Nintendo have shown when do even half way right, you can sell 235 million handhelds. There is almost no market for Xperia devices, and what is there is shrinking every year. At the end of the day no matter how little or how many Xperia's Sony sells, it continues to loose money, and do nothing to build a stronger business for them. They need to change gears, and focus on a market they understand, and have success in. They can get a good number of those 80 million  PSP owners back if they build a proper gaming phone that fills the necessities of a 2020 mobile device like PSP did in 2005.

There are millions of people that don't care about apps, size, weight, dust resistance, battery life, ect., and just want a mobile device that offers what they need. Like you said, it is not a one size fits all business, different people have different preferences. Sony needs to stop trying and failing to sell phones to the same people Apple and Samsung are, and start selling phones to their own niche demographic.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born.
