If you have a group of 100 people with 10 gays in it and you just say everybody is straight, it would give 100% false statements for the gays.

They mention their reasoning of its importance. They cite an article that reports some world governments and corporations working on developing similar applications. What the researchers here were interested in, is if there are programs built to do this task, how much more accurate are they from human intuition? We can't stop governments, some of which as they cite punish such sexual orientation with death from making such things, but what we can do is inform the public about their potential use.
