I don't see the point in discussing this tbh. Nintendo and MS fans love it because their companies does it and Sony fans don't think its a big deal because their company doesn't do it. Game companies can do whatever they want. They don't need to serve the gamers anymore. Gamers are serving the companies now. Its like sports teams. Fans love them no matter what they do.

Anecdotal but most of my friends with PS4s think it's dumb that Sony doesn't allow it.

Me personally don't care but I think they should allow it by finding a way that works for them and the other companies involved business wise

Thats not true though... look at the backlash MS got at the start of the gen for all the crap it tried to pulled, or for haveing 2 years without much in terms of quality exclusives.

There are certain things that can hurt them, I just dont think Crossplay is one such thing.
Lack of games is a much bigger issue, gamers go where the games are.

Look at Sea of Theives, all those people that championed Crossplay where lateron complaining how unfair the pvp system was, towards console owners that played against PC users.
They could litterality pull off stuff you couldnt on console. Then there was the issue of pc players useing cheats ect.

Shortly after there where tons of people complaining about cross play with PC users, and begging MS to add a way to turn it off.

Then this fiasco with Fortnite, and suddenly everyone is again praiseing how great crossplay is, useing it as a means to get a dig in at sony again.

As someone that plays Sea of Thieves weekly and keeps up with the community most of what you said isn't true. Some people were upset PC players around launch had cheats but Rare banned all of them and fixed the cheats problem. Also Rare revealed that the advantage between a PC and Xbox player isnt very noticeable. Iirc PC players accuracy was 2-3% more on average but Rare has also taken steps since then to make it more of an even playing feild.

Btw PC and xbox players play in mixed crews in SoT and there is no way to tel if you're playing with or against a PC or Xbox player unless you ask them.

Of course it has an impact. Not will, it already is impacting.

It is deluting the competitive effort. Not just the platform holders efforts. Do people have already forgotten? With crossplay pubs have even less reason to commit to AAA single player. Or is anybody seriously suggesting Bethesda&Co. don't have any financial interests and don't pursue a Games as a Service agenda?

O i have bad feeling about this...

https://www.pcgamesn.com/visceral-star-wars/amy-hennig-ea

It is almost comical how they are steering the community to do their bidding.

That was two games, they didn't actively pursue it and make a fuss about it, there was no cruddy crossplay PR-campaign.

Sooo sony is not the type of company that would implement crossplay regardless of the situation?

Situation? Sony doesn't have a Windows10, no windows store, they concentrate on solo player experiences, Playstation is where their focus lies.

Is it easier for you to understand now?

Hunting Season is done...

i dont like the idea of crossplay think of the constant barage of annoying die hard fanboys from any platform. constantly screaming how you are a idiot for buying x platform people calling eachother xfags, ponies and i dont know what else. i play games to relax not to get annoyed by some idiot who doesnt agree with my platform of choice. i know quite a few people on xbox and ps who are fanboys and would do this in a instant. and to who do we report those people the platform you are on or the one they are using.

-MS locks F2P games behind a paywall while Sony does not

Imo this is a way bigger issue then crossplay. Extremely anti consumer from ms.

i agree

dont understand why there are no complaints about needing gold to play a f2p game. seems to me more anti consumer than not allowing crossplay at all.

I find it funny how F2P being locked is somehow a bigger issue than millions of plaeyrs being able to play with one another.

Honestly with everyone else but Sony being on board, Sony's side seems like the bigger issue, and other devs are talking about it. Both are shitty, but Sony being the last player in crossplay is becoming more of an issue by the day.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

As opposed to the millions of players on Xbox without a gold account not being able to play a F2P game?. I don't find it very funny at all.

i rather have that my f2p game is actually f2p and not f2p after spending money. its a stupid anti consumer practice making people pay for something that is f2p.

also on the everyone else is on board part. here is a article wich points out that a large group of people are indifferent or dont want/need crossplay

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-04-12-do-gamers-really-care-about-cross-platform-play

it seems that cross-platform play adds little value to gamers' purchasing decisions with 58 percent being "Indifferent" to it, eight percent of all respondents felt "Fairly Negative" or  "Very Negative" about the push for cross-platform play from the games industry while 34 percent saw it as a positive trend
