Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Negative employee reviews suggest Retro Studios could be in serious trouble

Are they making a 3ds game by any chance?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

ex-employee writes about the death of their company.

Maybe a bit of bias on this one. Might want to wait to some solid information comes out before freaking out.

If they are wasting resources Nintendo should do something. If they're not gonna sell them or shut them down, hire some talent. I'm sure that with some good leadership Retro can still deliver the goods.

I'm honestly just sick of hearing rumors about the studio. At this point, let's just let the work speak for itself. Wait for valid information. If nothing comes by the end of the year, yeah ... there's probably something wrong.

Why just this year?  It has already been 5 years since their last game...hell we still do not even know exactly what they are doing.  I'd say a cause for concern is more than justified right now, even without these negative reviews.

It's been closer to 4.5 years. Which honestly, isn't even odd or unheard of this generation. It's just not common for Nintendo games, because they often don't require the resources other triple A games do. And technically, their last game was actually pretty recent ... they handled the port for Tropical Freeze in house

And I didn't say there wasn't a cause for concern, there is. I'm concerned, most people are I think. At the same time, the mass hysteria, and the blind acceptance of Retro's status as some kind of shit, D-tier Nintendo studio, is just sad. I know that some people (like Jump) are probably just saying it to get a reaction or to be edgy, but the point is that a lot of people who were fans are no longer because they'd rather be impatient than just wait for more information. We all have breaking points, mine hasn't been reached yet. I'd rather have this then Breath of the Wild, or Bayonetta 3, or Metroid Prime 4, or Death Stranding, or The Last of Us 2, games that - while show off their consoles extremely well - are announced too early. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that it has taken Retro just too long in general to get a product out there, but again these development times are not odd industry-wide.

I find there's a certain irony in the fact that people were so happy with Nintendo's approach to reveal games only a few months or a year before their release, and now that that kind of thing is being applied to Retro, well fuck off Retro! We need r gamez now! As much as I would love Retro to announce a game soon, I honestly wouldn't mind waiting until it's a bit closer to the release date.

Also is good to remember that they were the one who ported Tropical Freeze to Switch, while is not the thing we are waiting 5 years for, saying that they did nothing the past years is not really true.

To be fair, porting one of their own Wii U games to Switch with minimal changes is a job that could've been done by a handful of people in a very short time.

Retro is my favorite studio, I really hope this isn't real...

I make game analyses on youtube:

Shadow of the Colossus: https://youtu.be/9kDBFGw6SXQ
Silent Hill 2: https://youtu.be/BwISCik3Njc
BotW: https://youtu.be/4auqRSAWYKU

Considering their pedigree this wouldn't be a good outcome.

If the place is a shadow of its former self then close it down and put the talent elsewhere where they can be better utilized.

Weird.. cause back in October i asked retro when their new game was going to be revealed and they said "be patient".
Idk if it got cancelled but they were def working on something.
