Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Greatest Nintendo launch title?

My vote goes to...

Super Mario Bros 9 6.98%

Super Mario World 10 7.75%

Mario 64 38 29.46%

Wii Sports 6 4.65%

Zelda Twilight Princess 5 3.88%

Zelda Breath of the Wild 60 46.51%

Other 1 0.78%

Total:129

Mario 64 of course... It redefined platformers and the best mario game ever in my opinion

Breath of the Wild yes, but it's a cross gen game...

Best launch line up is still the Gamecube's

-Luigi's Mansion
-Wave race
-Pikmin just 2 weeks after
-Smash Bros Melee also two weeks after

Great third party games like :
-Rogue Leader
-Tony Hawk 3
-Burnout
-Super Mario Sunshine
-RE Rebirth
-RE 0

And I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of games. And that system got all the great and/or big third party IP like Prince of Persia, BGE, Call of Duty, FIFA, James Bond, Ghost Recon, BGE, Lord of the rings, madden, medal of honor, all the sports games from 2K and EA, Rayman, Resident Evil etc etc

Seriously, I don't think Nintendo is ever going to top that

"If you exclude these games because I say so, the system you like and I hate has no games, so I win!"

So, doing some research, the Famicom had 3 launch titles: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and Popeye.

Wasn't  a launch-title, Melee was released a few weeks later

Yeah, general consensus is any title released in first month or so is considered a launch title as it shipped in the launch window, but whatevers

General consensus by who? Launch window is generally considered separate from launch title as far as I'm aware.

I wonder what Switch sales would've been like it the Switch waited till October to release and launched with Super Mario Odyssey?

Unlikely to be better since the system was supply constrained for most of its first six months anyway.

I must admit I'm quite surprised, I thought Mario Bros and World would get a lot more votes than this given their popularity. Didn't think Mario 64 would be so far ahead of them.

They're all fantastic, though I don't think SMB was actually a launch game right? I gotta go with Mario 64. 3D was still new and it just revolutionized what a 3D game could be like. It was simply incredible. Wii Sports also gets up there as maybe my second vote because it introduced a brand new way to play games in a super fun way, it literally launched tens of millions of Wii sales. The most unexpected blockbuster title of all time.

Its july 2018 and i am still playing Botw. Got it one week after release. Great game.

Its an age thing and of course recency bias with BoTW. 10 years from now and likely a different new launch title will be at the top, while everything else is low.

I didn't even mention BOTW, it's only the vote spread across Mario Bros/World/64 that surprises me.
