Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did I get scammed?

if a long time ebay seller is suddenly selling items they never really carried before for dirt cheap it's usually a hacked account

Wouldn't they need to hack their Paypal account too though to collect the cash? They've been available since June 28th so you'd expect the original owner to have regained the account by now.

Maybe they are stolen. Or pirated.

Switch games can't be pirated yet can they? Fake, stolen or scam is my guess. Most of them could have been turned around at a CEX/GAME for £25-£30. 90 copies of Skyrim might arouse suspicion though.

As of a few months ago, they can be pirated, but you have to intentionally exploit the Switch.

Maybe he's selling just some covers? Else you're lucky.

I remember when X1 came out people were selling full priced boxes.

£5 would still be cheap for a case.

I once got scammed for my stupidity back in University. It was 1999 and we were ordering through and English site, and didn’t quite understand the wording. I found swords! Me and my friends all bought swords for 0.99 USD a pop. Written somewhere was a 100$USD shipping price. So we ended up paying that and some other fees as well, ended up around the price of just buying them locally at a sword shop. Being German meant none of us even considered backing out of the transaction. Also being German meant the moment we got them we would have sword fights!

Looking back on it: really-really stupid all around on my part.

But I think scamming is difficult if you have half a brain and better English.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

£4.99, scammed.

ive seen similar things before many years ago when i use to actually use ebay to buy used games. these are fakes, plain and simple. theyre bootleg cartridges with pirated ROMs of the game loaded onto them. when they arrive you may notice that the box art is of lower quality than you expected, because it will likely just be photocopied. of course, these types of fake carts seemed to die off a while ago once Nintendo had implemented better antipiracy software into their consoles that basically bricked any fake carts, but remember - not too long ago a flaw in the Switch's CPU left the door open to homebrewers with no way to patch it, meaning theyve probably taken the time to find a work around, and this is their return. maybe im wrong, but thats my guess.

Well you have to wait a few months (if estimate delivery period is few months) before you can take action.

Had this happen to me and to get back $40 it took 5months lol

I just had a mental image of someone trading a couple of copies in at a store, going out, and coming back with a shitty disguise to trade more copies in, lol.

It'll be interesting to see how this goes though, if the seller is legit and you get your items for super cheap, I might have to give it a try myself out of curiosity, lol :P

Happens all the time in CEX but for that shop you need to have an account and selling any more than 2 of the same item triggers a reduction on the buying price on their side (or can trigger, but always does) they basically have their system set up so that CEX don't get screwed out by a strange deal like this but that they also profit from whatever is going on.

"If you want to sell multiple copies of the same /similar item then a bulk discount may be applied. You will be emailed details of any change of price and allowed 5 working days to respond. If you fail to reply, this will be seen as your agreement to the new offer and the transaction will be processed. Please make sure you reply if you do not wish to accept the new price."

Had this happen when a shop here were literally giving away their skylanders and stopping sale of them, traded in a lot of them so yeah.... didn't get the site price, but did get a ton of money for nothing.
