Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wolfenstein 2 on Switch is a good product if you don't care about resolution...

Again, the screenshots is the Switch version compared to the best console visual fidelity. If it was a standard X1 used instead, the comparison would be less dramatic, but the Switch version would be no less blurry.

The X1X is much closer to Switch in price than a PC capable of the same performance/graphics at 8K. Not really relevant but I'll just add that.

3DS and Vita games are designed for their tiny screens and most games run native to the resolution of those screens (around 240p-540p?). Switch was built with a 720p (HD) screen and a lot of games achieve that resolution just fine. I'd even argue 720p looks acceptable on a large TV, Wolf 2 is in the ballpark of 720p on a standard X1. However, Switch was actually designed to achieve up to 1080p on a TV, it even gets a power boost from being docked to do higher resolutions. Hence, you're looking at Wolf 2 on Switch like its a game designed just for a small low res screen. Your logic is antithetical to the Switch, a device built with a HD screen and intended to play on HD TVs.

Yes but lets be honest your agenda is to bag out a device you don't intend to ever use.

Considering the other thread got deleted for switch bashing I don't see how this is any different other than the way you executed the bashing.

Heh, I made some valid arguments so you gave up and just said I'm bashing.

I'm critical of the direction they went, trying to keep all the effects but letting the presentation turn into mud.

Sure, Switch might be a better fit for smaller games. The majority of my Switch games so far are indies, followed by exclusives. Wolfenstein is my first big budget first party game so far. I'd love to see what kind of third party exclusives could be done on Switch.

Oh, I'm not arguing Switch should get smaller games per se. Its more about balancing the effects with a resolution that holds up better.

The game could have benefitted from more customization for the hardware, less taxing effects, etc. But maybe they didn't have the time/resources.

Bringing modern console quality games to Switch is great, its just something that could be handled better for the specs.

What do you mean "if"? If you have Switch as your main platform you do not care much about resolutions. And even if you do, you will most likely expect this on AAA games.

I think the lighting, which is way above the best gen 7 games in my opinion, is pretty demanding but at the same time very important for the look and feel of Wolfenstein 2. Maybe there would have been a way if the complete lighting and ambient occlusion had been redone.

But the game really doesn't feel bad on Switch. I'd only wish it wouldn't go below 540p docked.

Keeping in mind how ports like Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow looked back in the days of 6th gen this port is pretty impressing. It's not perfect, but really far from bad or unplayable. Again, Switch third party exclusives or 'hand taylored' ports could be very interesting.

Well 480p is better than no game at all IMO, if you're a switch only owner like me.

And btw we're comparing a 7 watt console with a 150+ watt console in the op pics..

Not caring about resolution is like not caring for current gen games. Best to stick with your gamecube games then xd

It's rather a question about priorites and about making mountains out of mole hills.

The best looking portable FPS I recall was Killzone Mercenary for Vita it looked good on the original oled screen running in Vita's native res , so I wouldn't mind seeing how the more demanding Wolfenstein on Switch plays and compares.

I actually replayed Killzone Mercenary a PS TV pretty recently. The visuals are actually pretty ugly, OG Xbox has more impressive FPS games.

Killzone Mercenary had a dynamic resolution so it gets really pixelated, textures are muddy, and the character models look like 6th gen quality. It looks okay compared to 6th gen stuff but the Switch easily does better.

Ummm no. I mean sure, if you blow ut up on a full HD screen (via PSTV) and compare it to the OG Xbox on a SDTV it might look somewhat comparable, but just recently having played HL2, Black, and DOOM 3 on the OG Xbox (and just last year went trough Riddick) I can guarantee you that they come nowhere near of pulling off stuff that were done in KZ:M. Lightning, environment detail, character models and especially weapons look considerably better in KZ:M. Obviously KZ2/3 look better but KZ:M most deffinatly stands roughly on the same level as cross-gen 6th/7th gen FPSs on the later gen systems.

360p is a pretty blurry mole hole to look at tbh. After finishing games like SUper Mario Odiseey and seeing how that game looks on the Switch, this port is nowhere near as good as DF makes it out to be. Is it a cool demonstration of what is possible? Yeah. Will I buy it? Maybe if it drops to sub 10$ and untill than I wont play the PS4 version.

The thing is that the Switch is a pretty capable device and it was proven with both Nintendo's and 3rd party releases. 360p in docked mode should not be acceptable especialy when we are talking about a framerate that can't even hit a constant 30fps. IMO Panic Button starts to show that its far more hype than tallent if you ask me and they are simply banking on the Switches popularity to drag their overrated ports to fianncial stability.

I am in no way, shape or form a graphics whore. I just recently dustedd of an Original Xbox and GBC and I can treasure old and ugly titles. But this one simply seems like yet another 6-month cash-grab.

No different than Doom, who cares, it runs on the Switch and Doom was a fun time to play on the go, I actually skipped the Wolfenstein 2 launch to get the Switch version later. Just an innocent single player game by Bethesda. play it for the story, not the looks.
