Forums - Politics Discussion - Supreme Court Justice Kennedy Is Retiring.

Means that Trump will get to appoint another justice and the Supreme Court woild have 5 conservative justices and 4 liberal justices. This is going to have a huge effect on American politics for decades to come.

That is incorrect. Kennedy leans conservative so it will still be 5-4. It's just that his replacement will likely be more conservative than he is.

Oh ok thx will make that correction.

Considering some of Trump's White House appointments, this is kind of scary. I don't think anyone would argue that he hasn't made some terrible staffing decisions. I hope he stays within reason.

Well, we're screwed. The Religious Right and Wall Street both had their greatest wet dream come true. Say goodbye to Social Security, Medicare, and everything else from the New Deal and the Great Society. Say goodbye to any meaningful corporate regulations. Oh, and we can forget about any meaningful attempts to fight gerrymandering. And the likelihood that Roe, Obergefell, and other decisions that right-wingers have been chomping at the bit to overturn will actually get overturned just went way up. Kennedy just handed this country over to the fascists for a generation.

I hope all you "Bernie or Bust" and "Hillary isn't a real progressive" types that sat at home on election day or voted for Stein or Johnson are fucking happy. Also, God damn the GOP for giving Obama a big "fuck you" on the Merrick Garland nomination.

I think you've mistaken the Judicial branch for the Legislative branch ...

LOL, hyperbole much. Though, personally, if we could get back to a smaller government and personal responsibility that would be a huge plus to the country and the world. Fortunately for you, the Progressives rooted that other crap so deep, it's most likely not going away.

Hell, why not just appoint fucking Ronald McDonald as the next Supreme Court Justice, he has all the prerequisites Trump is looking for...none.

Dude deserves a long vacation. Hope he has fun with family and other stuff in his retirement.

Makes sense. Don't see why the list would change in less than a year or however long it was since the last appointment.
