This isn't the same thing. The children were torn away from their parents by force, and grouped together in camps like animals.

It takes time to either find a foster family or to arrange to send a child back to his or her home country.  So the government went a temporary option rather than letting the parents who committed a criminal act off the hook or sending the kids to jail with their parents, where they'd be in much worse conditions.  If the parent is a first-time offender he/she will usually be sentenced to time served and released if they plead guilty, and then reunited with their kids after a few weeks.  If that doesn't happen the government usually searches for a foster family.  Either way the camp is a temporary measure.

Camps are a common feature for migrant issues around the world.  Refugees and migrants in many European nations are placed in camps before they are integrated, often in far worse conditions than the places children of illegal immigrants are sent to in the US.  The separation issue is the only unique feature in the US system, and that stems entirely from the fact that the parents are being prosecuted for criminal acts.

I don't think this will really accomplish anything by the way. But I certainly think we should look closely at who is coming in, legally and otherwise.

Are there immigrant children gulags I'm unaware of? I have the impression they're separating children for a processing period in relatively nice facilities.

The children are actually in more danger making the trek versus US facilities. I wish it was okay to blame the parents or the country of origin for being the real problem. But accountability is dead.

This is coming from someone that is whole heartedly anti trump and overall is against the "Muslim ban" but in it's current form it's a far cry from what trump proposed during his campaign. His original proposal was flat out islamophobic and xenophobic but now it's not the end of the world. It feels incredibly unnecessary and probably won't fix anything in the long run especially when you consider that islamic terroism is almost non existent in the usa but it's not the call for government sanctioned religious intolerance that it used to be

I am Muslim, but i am supporting Trump to not let Terrorist coming from unsafe country. Trump as far as i know are not banning Muslim as general they are banning potential Terrorist treat from country like Libya, Iran, Qatar and several country that had relation with terrorist organization like Hizbullah, Muslim Brotherhood , Al Qaida, Isil, etc.

And for people who think Salafi from Saudi is a terrorist group , you guys are wrong, The salaf are not a group or organization. and they are a Muslim that follow the Prophet way of companion , the salaf are not the Muslim brotherhood that influence Al Qaeda and Taliban. The salafi ideology is forbid their follower to revolt to any government ruler or rezim. They are not involving with any political movement. They will follow any ruler who ruled the land.

Nice twisting of words, also false narrative. You do understand this is a problem Trump inherited, it existed before him. This is the processing procedure, the goal isn't separating families.

On a side note, at what point are we gonna attack school and jobs for separating families by the way? Its such a stupid narrative.

Anywho, didn't he sign an executive order to keep them together? Now liberals can create another stupid thing to get outraged about.

The previous presidents, including Bush had no problem with them being together.  

Illegal immigration is different from most laws, because the issue is being in a region where you aren't allowed to be, the kids are also breaking the law.  

If you believe that kids should be given more leniency, because they are kids, then you should also think that DACA should be considered more important.  (Not saying you do, or don't) Simply because that's a law that protects people who were kids when they came over.

But at the end of the day, the policy has been overturned so it doesn't matter anymore.  

To be fair Trump was virtually ready to give amnesty to many DACA recipients in exchange for increased security.

I really thought it was gonna happen until it became apparent dems are leaning into open borders now.
