CGI- do you work for a gaming studio?

At one time, I was with a small studio within my school. These days, I work with a team of 3D artists.

Do you guys do contract work for studios?  Pretty impressive stuff!

Say @cgi-quality these things you do with next gen in mind, right? but if you would forget gens and would push the capabilities how would that stuff look?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I know it wasn't the intention of the thread but untapped potential is a wonderfull thing and i suppose with each upgrade the limit will be even more gorgeous

Made including a current game engine (though it is using next gen tech). As I say, hold me to it. The most advanced technological games will have animation/visual quality on par with this in the 9th gen!

Those are the first pictures you posted that I actually like graphically. Do you think a gpu between geforce 2060-2070 performance can do graphics like that at 1440p/30fps?

Evoking emotion.....

Would you play this game, just off of the picture (without any backstory)?

Yes.
That whole a picture says a 1000 words, that shot paints a picture, you can tell theres a story behinde it.

Its good story telling, which usually means a good game.
Also good way to sell a game, lure people in with the mystery of it all.

Kojima is the master of this.

I must say, I'm not always too satisfied with work I put into this medium (it's never quite 'good' enough), but I'm happy with this one. My first real push into the Raytracing medium. I have others in here, but they use a combination of traditional Raytracing calculations, not quite the level of what we have here though don't confsue this with real time Raytracing, which is far more taxing)!

-pic

- Eyes (Raytraced reflections)
- Hair (GI)
- Topshirt(Draped with real physics+Raytraced reflections)
- Skin (skin graphed after a live person, Raytraced GI + reflection, advanced SSS)
- Earring (Raytraced reflections on the metal, beads + GI raytracing)
- Tube Necklace (Raytraced GI)
- Strand-based (fiber) arm, face, and neck hairs

- 1.14m faces (polygons)

The only things not raytraced are her teeth, which would require a bit more time (and shall make this picture 'pop even more once finished).

That Topshirt + glow stick necklace = awesome.
Eyes + hair, even the smile are on point.

If anything Id say the only thing there is the teeth seem abit plastic, too perfect, and abit flat?.
Apart from that the character model is basically perfect.

Is it from a game?

From afar, I think this character model could "fool" alot, thinking it was actually a person, and not a 3D character.

Not from a game, but certainly something like what you can expect from next gen. Btw, regarding the teeth, look at the more updated version above your quote. I adjusted them with more modern techniques (although they're still my least favorite thing about the image).

The way the light hits them is much better now.
They still have abit of that plastic look, their too uniform.

not sure how to explain it, apart from the shape + grooves on each tooth, would differ in real life vs these.
You need to add small imperfections to the teeth, to give them realism.
Like little jags into them, change the surface ect.

Like this is really minor stuff... and nit picking, but it would be the cherry on the top, to bring your character to life.

Teeth are tough, even for the most experienced character artist. It's just something we're going to be doing more deforming of as technology gets better.

Also at some point, you have to ask if its worth it.... like does it effect gameplay? that a character model artist, designed individual teeth for a model?
Ive noticed that alot of games, basically try to "avoid" showing to much of it.

Which fair enough, is a way around the whole issue (inside mouth + teeth ect).

I have to be honest, with each passing year, as we're getting closer to realism, I'm getting less and less interested in photorealistic visuals. Tech itself, sure, since it can be potentially used to make stylized realism (which I prefer) look better, but then again, I would rather have all that juice used for tech that can deliver proper fully physics based worlds and narrative AIs.
