The end result is that, yes, it is good for gamers, but this is obviously just an atempt to destroy Sony's image. |
Does the motive matter?
Sony's for the players is just a marketing gimmick. A company can say and do whatever they want, we all know it is for the bottom line. The almighty dollar.
Thus who cares what face a company puts on, or the reason why, as long as it benefits us customers it's a good thing. At the moment, Microsoft and Nintendo have more consumer friendly practices. It does not matter if it's for altruistic reasons or monetary reasons.
Sony is the bad guy right now. The future we don't know what will happen. They may all become closed off and bad, or they may all become open and good for us. Or it may flip and Sony will be the good for consumer and Microsoft or Nintendo bad. But that is an unknown. What matters now is the present. Not the past, or the unknown future, but the present.
Do you think Sony is being "for the fans" in regards to Spiderman and the MCU? Hell no, its for the money. If Amazing Spiderman series had made billions on its own, they would have never sat down with Disney. We have to fight whoever is in power to get them to do what is best for us. If Nintendo or Microsoft become leader next gen, I don't want them to close off cross play with others. Just like I don't want loot boxes in games. We need to keep fighting and keep them doing what is good for us. Pointing out someone else did it in the past or hyperbolically stating if so and so was in same position they would do the same, helps us in no way.
