Right, but the Switch is replacing both the Wii U and the 3DS. So comparing it against just the Wii U is rather foolish.

3DS YTD 2012-885k

Wii U YTD 2014-350k

NSW YTD 2018-1.2m

Good data, thanks. Switch definitely showing muscle.

So, while Switch is showing its muscle, PS4 is winning the Mr Olympia :)

But 2017 sales weren't good. Stock issues were a viable excuse though. Being a tiny step above PS4's worst May with 2 software releases in top 4 isn't good, its okay.

I would say good, its better than any May for 3DS & XBO and not far from the average PS4 May.

Also Donkey Kong released during Aprils tracking period.

PS4 May 2015 was considered bad by many, even if it won the month. And I agreed with them. I can't see how slightly better than that would be good.

Point being 3DS, XB1, Wii U, Vita, whatever else you want to add all did quite poorly in May. Switch should be compared to all consoles, not just the poor ones. (for May)

I would add all months of May for all consoles, but of course that is quite the undertaking. But iirc, 360, PS3, and Wii all had better months of May.

Yes and that was why people said DK had lower sales in April, because a lot of it will be in May. Clearly still selling well through May as it is in top 2.

I wouldn't look into may sales too much, I agree they are ok. I think what we should look at  jan-may, and how they stack up, for a console thats suppose to do 20 million, and NA is stronger region compared to even europe and ROTW its not looking good at all, we also have confirmation that switch is 20% down in spain  this year if that trend continues like the US and spain nintedo will miss the target by 3-4 million even if they over ship.

I don’t get this logic. 2017 has been terrible for X1. After the Scorpio announcement X1 sales tanked hard...now things are back to normal. That’s all.

Not really. May 2018 was the best May for Xbox One in the US.

It would be strange if it wasn’t, considering the extremely low price and a brand new console on the market.

It’s just barely above 2015 btw.

2015 - 140k
2016 - 107k
2017 - 109k
2018 - 145k
PS4:
2014 - 197k
2015 - 153k
2016 - 207k
2017 - 187k
2018 - 223k
NSW:
2017 - 165k
2018 - 167k

Stolen from resetera, sales for the month of May for every year. This is the best month of May for all three consoles, as you can see.

The drought is coming to an end little switch. It's now time to rise again.

Is the Switch soon getting several games that are significantly bigger than DK:TF, Labo, Bayonetta and Kirby? Or are we about to hear you say the same thing when those games' sales don't live up to your expectations?

Dk is a port and got marketed has such since it was barely advertised compare to how much they are pushing MTA. Kirby helped in japan but god 1 game in an ocean of nothing... also a kirby game that got 73 metacritic wont sell billions of switch. Not saying MTA alone will push it but there is lots of games surrounding it. New games makes the switch get more advertisement online and it doesn't need 1 big game all the time, a bunch of games releasing at the same time will give it a nice flow of news online.

We talking about MARIO tennis aces, Octopath, Crash, Wolfenstein 2, Dark souls, Monster Hunter. Far from the biggests sellers but will sure help the Switch pick up some speed or atleast stay around 180k WW during summer.

Oh wow the Xbox One saw a nice increase, last 2 years it was nearing sub 100K.

We got Mario Tennis on Firday, Octopath Traveler in 4 weeks, and Monster Hunter Generations in August.

Plus some late ports within the next couple weeks like Y's 8, Crash, and Wolfenstein 2 and some time later this summer Dark Souls. So we are definitely about to end the drought of games.

If none of the consoles released this decade had good Mays than isnt the logical conclusion to make that May just isnt a very good month in general for console sales?

If PS4, the best performing console, averages like ~200k in May than i would say 165k is pretty good.

Edit: but i guess we are arguing semantics, whether we call it good/okay/decent/average/solid/etc doesnt matter, we agree that the numbers arent great and they arent bad but somewhere in between.

Not really since PS has that new blue special edition, last year's gold edition sold like crazy, so I would assume this to do the same. Plus, the pro is $349, and PSVR is close to $199.  They should easily be able to win, and if not, it would be a huge upset.

The gold edition came with a $50 price cut. The blue has the same $299 price. So no, it will not be a huge upset. The only upset, as well as poor showing, will come if the XBO loses June. Or just ties.

nope. XBO lost this May even with sales (and PS had none). How do expect the opposite this time?

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
