Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gamestop looking for buyer?

Gamestop is a pre-owned business. I hope whoever buys them offers $2 or $3. See how they like it!

I already have a bid in but it's for $20 in store credit

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I really don't shop at Gamestop anymore. I usually just buy physical copies of games from Amazon or my local game store. I still don't want them to go out of business though. People would lose their jobs and that wouldn't be good. Hopefully whoever buys them can make good and needed changes for the store.

My favorite game store was Game Crazy. I still miss them.

its really dumb that this works in business. basically they just want another company to buy them because they know they wont last forever. digital takes more sales and gamestop is just not as good as amazin or others for physical non used copies.

hopefully this will hurt the used copies market. kinda kills some game franchises that are mostly single player. a lot of games you see everyone play. you check the sales and its like not much

How is it dumb it works? Gamestop knows their end is in sight and thus is trying to sell.

The buyer should know the same thing. The buyer will only buy for a price they believe they can make a profit on before it goes out of business, or else they have some ideas that they think can turn this company around and keep it afloat.

People dont' just buying dying businesses for the fun of it. They plan to make money.

I use the gamestop alot for trades and buying used games at a reasonable price. i hope it stays around in my area. though i can see the one at the about vacant mall here closing.

It makes me happy to see GameStop in this position. They are such greedy pieces of shit. Recently they have started automatically adding the warranty to my game purchases, and I have to remember to ask them to remove the charge every time. Oh and get this:

I had gone to GameStop to buy Ys VIII a few months ago, and since it was their last copy, they went to the shelf to get the case, but someone had stolen it, or it had gone missing, or whatever. Regardless, they insisted that it was a "new" game and that I should be charged full price.

And I'll be damned if I buy something and don't get hounded about pre-ordering something else. I live in a populated area around Chicago, Illinois, and I can't remember the last time I've seen a game sell out. Pre-ordering makes no financial sense, and the only reason to ever pre-order is if you really want the game-breaking sword that makes you one-shot enemies during the opening hours of the game, or if you really want to have it pre-installed so you can play immediately at launch.

They are the Blockbuster of gaming.

Gamestop is a publicly traded company, and any shareholder that wants out can easily sell their stocks already, no need for a large scale buy-out.

Not a lot of long term potential here. GameStop has at best like 10 years left? Maybe? Most likely a lot less. It would need to reinvent itself to be able to stick around. I wouldn’t invest in a company like that...

Only time I ever bought from GameStop was when they had really good sales over the holiday season. Otherwise, it’s just not worth going there when Amazon offers better prices on used games and Best Buy has GCU (until I can’t use it anymore when my sub expires).
