Forums - Gaming Discussion - DF analysis: Fortnite on Switch

Ah good old DF.
People enjoy a game until DF tells them the framerate or resolution is some number and then magically the game now sucks.

The game runs terrible on PC, looks like last(-last) gen but requires modern hardware.

Fortnite runs terrible on PC ... ?

Do you have a single core CPU? xD

I have gaming PC but I did try an older laptop with a core-i5 (3.3 Ghz 2/4) and an Intel HD 4000 with 16 GB. This laptop can run Skyrim at 900p, most source games like Portal II at 1080p and even MGS V 720p above 30fps. Fortnite has to go to 360p to get a somewhat stable frame rate over 30 fps.

A comparison to Fortnite on notebooks, iPhones, iPads, Nvidia Shield and Android flagships would be more interesting.

No, this video shows the compromises made on Switch's limited specs compared to the best looking console version. But it also shows off how similar the game is in spite of those visual compromises.

Frankly, the Ryzen 2200g APU ($99) crushes what the Switch can do. The Switch settings MIGHT be custom settings for the platform.

Personally my favorite is using DF just like people use Metacritic, which is to reflect whenever "their" console does good and the other does bad.

Hm ... wow ... that is honestly ... really weird?

Sorry you had that experience! I honestly think Fortnite is a pretty well optimized game. I mean, I know a lot of people who play it on low range PCs, who have a perfectly enjoyable experience. But that doesn't change the fact that you've had a bad experience, that certainly is sad D:

(You're not missing much in my opinion, to be honest...)

Yes. Woe is me.

Ive tried a few matches on Switch, and at most the only real difference I have been able to notice is the shortened draw distance. And of course, the lower resolution does make everything a bit blurrier, but the game itself appears pretty much identical to the PC version. Its pretty impressive at what the Switch hardware was able to accomplish here. But all things considered Im sticking to PC and the controller layout for Fortnite is abysmal compared to how streamlined a keyboard and mouse feels

Lets compare the Switch to the Xbox one (that makes sense, it's probably the closest other home console in terms of performance it will be cool to see just how close it comes to people playing on another system) X (flips over PC desk)

This is like doing a graphics comparison between a 950 and a 1080TI to show the difference between 9XX and 10XX performance, you aren't comparing like for like at all, the majority of people you'll encounter in X platform play will not be on the premium X1X models they'll be on the base system which would have been interesting to see especially considering the 6teraflop version of the machine struggles to maintain 60fps in large fights

Just focusing on the technical side of what the Switch version is offering though this video is cool to see that the cut backs are aesthetic based for the most part (not fps) and that you still can see players from the same distance as on other platforms so if anything you might gain an edge by removal of distant foliage that another player thinks they're hiding inside in.

Strange choice for the comparison though, headshakingly so.
