Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So... Will Nintendo be able to ship those 20 million Switch units?

This will be difficult to make happen, for various reasons.

- Lack of AAA games, which are the best-selling games every year
- Lack of exclusive 3rd party games to counter the tidal wave of PS4/X1 games
- Way too much confidence in long sellers. They are long sellers but not eternal sellers, at some point there will be saturation on that part of the public
- No roadmap for 2019 and beyond (games, OS improvements, VC, etc.)
- Pokemon Let's Go will be divisive. Core fans like me won't accept a lesser game experience

Let's say Nintendo sells 18million switch units a year. Are they now doing better than before? Before they used to sell WiiU + 3DS or Wii + DS.

This depends on overall profit, so most likely yes for 3ds+Wiiu and no for Wii+DS

Next shipment is numbers are good then there doing great, i believe it will be low because they over shipped for the last quarter.

So you do believe Nintendo's numbers atleast, that's good enough.

People underestimate Nintendo Labo. It will drive numbers. Nintendo Labo was always meant to sell during holidays season, not at launch. They will make huge commercial campaigns for it during holidays season. Why they released it in April? That's their secret but Nintendo Labo isn't a traditional video game that is basically doing its biggest numbers during the first few weeks after release. It's a completely new (toy-) product and it will be interesting to see how it will do during holidays season.
Ment to sell during the holidays, yet it did nothing substantial during golden week or after it got a price cut in Japan, and was released 7 months out from western holidays. Sure, they'll probably have new labo kits and with them a new marketing campaign for the holidays. Doubt it'll fair much better but we'll see.

They probably will do a Nintendo Switch + Labo bundle!

No way if we're talking about a value saving bundle, but even straight up bundles have only been done for multi-million seller games.

You think a non core Pokemon will cut it though? Genuine question because I haven't kept up with people's interest in it. After they announced that the main game wasn't coming out until (next year?) I lost all interest completely.

Game freak is treating it as a main title, and e3 reception was really good, with a lot of people also waiting in line to play. With the most shipments of any switch game, I think it's safe to assume they are banking on this title

..but it's still not a main title. I don't know, maybe it'll sell well and I'm ok with that, but it's kind of insulting for them to think we're stupid enough to think this is a main game and not some quirky Pokemon Rumble thing.

I don't like the game either, but I recognize it is a mainline title, a stripped and watered down entry that doesn't advance the series forward in any substantial ways (besides co-op), but still mainline. The changes to wild encounters isn't a fundamental difference. The end result is still the same, and you've still got your battling, trading and adventuring all intact. Actual spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon, Rumble, Quest, etc. are wholly different games.

No Nintendo have said it's a mainline title it's just not aimed solely at core fans they've only said the game next year is more core focused so its like 2d and 3d Mario.

If that's true, then I'm REALLY fucking insulted.
