He's been saying that since Brawl.
He's said that for literally every Smash game ever. He'll still be making Smash when he's 100.
Make this the last Smash title and just gradually update it

I'd honestly be fine with that but I think it's popularity would dwindle and require another brand new game to get people interested. Nintendo won't want to risk losing one of their biggest system sellers like that.
But I hope Sakurai gets to leave the series if he's sick of it. He's done more than enough and I wish him the best in whatever he does next.
The poor man is killing his hands in each game by playing to exhaustion, to get everything right. Give him a break. Also, I'd like to see him working on somewhere else too.
but the thing is now - Smash Bros Ultimate is perfect for establishing a continuously growing Smash Bros platform. every character from smash bros history is being included and then some, plus it looks like every stage is coming back, so already there is a lot for base fans to get excited about. but then the big kicker here is that the game is coded in Unreal Engine 4. this would make the game extremely easy to port to new consoles should Nintendo make them, and it also greatly simplifies things for the modding community.
also remember, hes been hitting us with the "this will be the last smash game" speech since Melee
I remember when Melee was the last one.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
