Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What are Nintendo's studios making? (UPDATED following February Direct)

This thread will track Nintendo's first-party releases across 2017 to 2019, primarily on Switch, but will include information on 3DS games, as well as mobile games developed by EPD or other subsidiaries. 'First-party' in this context is going to mean games developed, licensed or funded by Nintendo - not games that are just published by Nintendo, i.e. Octopath Traveler is Nintendo-published, but it doesn't tell us anything about how Nintendo are allocating development resources and it doesn't use a Nintendo IP. That's one purpose of this thread - to see which studios have released or are making games, or which have no known projects underway.

This post will include Nintendo's internal studios - Entertainment, Planning and Development (EPD), studios owned by Nintendo (subsidiaries), and studios that have specific deals with Nintendo and are usually Nintendo-only (affiliated). The next post will contain third-party studios working on Nintendo-licensed or published games, i.e. Ubisoft Milan & Paris, Mario + Rabbids, as well as studios who've worked on remasters for Nintendo and might do again in the next 18 months or so (Tantalus, Monster Games). Studios who work on mobile games or network services might also be added to the second post.

Games without an official reveal or announcement will not be listed (e.g. no rumoured Star Fox, no unofficially confirmed Pikmin 4).

Games listed are for Switch unless otherwise stated.

Don't you mean, What is Nintendo Making?

Yes, but I think I'll change it to "What are Nintendo's studios making?"

According to the internet, only ports, given the reaction to Smash 5.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Ignore the internet when it comes to Nintendo directs. there is never a direct that people don't bitch about.

It could be a xenoblade chronicles 2 focused direct and people would still bitch that they didn't show any new games, or didn't show bayonetta, or smash, or Metroid. Or they would bitch cause they don't like xenoblade and don't want the direct.

Good job!
Right now there are plenty of studios with unannounced projects, it seems we can rwally expect some announcements at the very end of the year or early next one.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Thanks guys - if anybody spots anything that's incorrect or that needs updating, let me know. I'll update with details of which of these current games are eShop only over the weekend and will aim to update whenever we get announcements or Directs etc.

Great idea, that makes ut pretty easy to track what games are in development and where. Subscribed!

Edit: Now I'm getting interested what Genius Sonority, Headstrong and Next Level Games are doing for all those years. No release last year and nothing yet announced from them, looks suspiciously like we're going to get some announcements about their respective projects later this year.

Btw, who is Genius Sonority? never heard of them before I think.

Genius Sonority are a very small studio (~20 strong) who've worked on download games like Pokemon Shuffle and the Denpa Men rpgs for 3DS. Headstrong made the Battalion Wars games on GC and Wii, and have since mostly made Art Academy games. If either studio has a Switch game in the works, they're likely eShop only or a fairly small project.

The interesting ones to watch are Next Level and Retro Studios - Next Level's last game was Federation Force (2016) and obviously Retro have been quiet for a while, but my guess is along with Platinum (Bayonetta 3), Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem: Three Houses), Good-Feel (Yoshi) and Game Freak (Pokemon), they're the two studios most likely to have new Switch games out in 2019. Edit: And I would hope there's another wave of EPD titles coming, given how quiet they've been this year versus last.
