Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fortnite - warning DO NOT play on PS4, or you can't play on Switch (and quick start guide if you're sheltered like me, and didn't know about this game before)

Is this the first time something like this has happened? Heck my slow self thought this was the norm for games lol. Not a big deal in my opinion nor am I defending this. I have never thought about taking my account on a game from my PS4, or XB and transferring it to another one. They were separate and I always used them as such. But I can see why this would upset people and understand why this would stir some people up.

When it is a third party log-in, you assume you have shared saves on whatever system you have the game.

It's like playing FF14 on the PS4, I would assume I can log into my account on my PC and play the same characters.

In the case of Fortnite, you can do that. You can log into the same account on PC, Mobile and PS4.

OR you can log into the same account on your Switch, Xbox One, Mobile and PC

Though as soon as you log into a console, its locked into that crossplay family forever, without warning. There are lots of PC players that logged into the PS4 once just to unlock a quick free skin. Many are calling it Sony's Trojan horse. They offer a free skin, and as soon as you grab it, you are now locked out of ever logging into an Xbox or Switch with that account now.

People bought things like skins and such on their accounts with actual money which are now locked onto one console with out warning this could actually turn into a nasty legal issue for them looking at it now as it wasn't just cross play blocked it's the whole third party account, it's like if you logged into your email on your iphone and now can't access it in any windows or android based system.

Someone could have made most of their progress and purchases on PC and played only a few times on PS4 and now find all their progress locked to that platform.

Curious as to this scenario.

Let's say I'm a PC/Mobile player only. When I go to play crossplay, do I choose who to crossplay specifically, like I say I want to crossplay with PS4 players, or Xbox, or Switch, or Mobile, or does it just toss me into a lobby and I don't actually know what systems I'm crossplaying with. It could be from any system and no way of knowing unless I ask people over chat what systems they playing on.

Now let's say I logged into the PS4 once to get a skin. I never play on the PS4, and only the PC still. Can I no longer crossplay with Xbox/Switch people ever again?

I'd love for you to provide a source that proves a large percentage of Nintendo fans ran to Sony to get their Zelda and Mario fixes. And when you say fans, does that allude to casual fans or hardcore gamers? Hardcore gamers would be more likely to buy multiple systems right? So they'd end up with a PS4 regardless of how Wii U fared. Don't forget 3DS, lots of fans got their fix there.

A lot of people are stoping at nothing to defend Sony, what they're doing is anti-gamer no matter which way you look at it. Nintendo and Microsoft have gotten their share of criticism for shady things they've done, Sony isn't exempt.

Again, use your brain. The 3DS can't play home console multiplatform games. If someone wanted to play any with friends, where would they go? It's fairly obvious that alot of ninty fans own a PS4 considering all of whining over this.

Of course you want to believe that it's just Nintendo fans complaining in order to absolve Sony's culpability in this. Even if it WAS just Nintendo fans complaining (which it isn't), how does that somehow make it any better? Why is okay to fuck over gamers who actually purchased your product?

Did Sony advertise the exclusive skin? If there was no warning accounts were about to get abducted, this whole debacle just keeps getting worse.

The complaints started when ninty fans tried to transfer their fortnite account with dlc/game progress over to the ns. So it's very much the ninty fans. Gamers aren't being fucked over. The majority of multiplatform games would never allow the transferring of game progress and dlc over to a different platform. It's uncommon sense apparently. This has nothing to do with crossplay and everything to do with how multiplatform games work on consoles. Sony is catching shit over something all 3 of them do but sony makes for a convenient villain since they are the market leader. For the most part, the complaints are nonsensical.

With 80 million PS4s out in the wild, it's not unexpected.

Hyperbolic. This kind of stuff is normal for all 3. You can't buy a cod game with all the DLC on one console and expect to be able to transfer game progress or dlc over without having to buy/do everything again. That's normal for almost all multiplatform games. People need to stop acting so entitled and get over what's normal. If you were planning on playing it on a certain platform then why grind alot or spend money on the game on a different platform? Because that's pretty stupid.

People were used to being able to log on to their EG account and move it about between PC and mobile but log on to it via PS4 and it gets locked. I'm used to being able to log in to different accounts from various platforms in many things in life. As an example, I can log on to vgchartz or just about any website from any platform be it Windows, Linux, Android, or iOS without any fear of getting my account locked or essentially hijacked by one.

Sony seems to think otherwise and I understand no form of warning is ever given.

This shit is absolutely disgusting. Fuck Sony.

That doesn't make any sense. It's well known that you can't transfer game progress and dlc of the vast majority of multiplatform games over to a different platform. You're "locked out" as you put it when you double dip with a game. All of them do this so does that mean that you're gonna fuck them all or does sony get special treatment?

There's an account linking process. Once you've linked another account the crossplay option appears. Pretty sure the game displays what system people are playing on. If you don't want to play with people from another platform, you turn the option off in settings.

Now let's say I logged into the PS4 once to get a skin. I never play on the PS4, and only the PC still. Can I no longer crossplay with Xbox/Switch people ever again?

Correct. You'd have to start with a fresh account (no skins) in the non-Sony ecosystem. I'm not 100% sure but I think you can link accounts without even playing the game or logging in to the PS4. Just signing in on this page might be enough to lock you out.

Ahhhh see I never even thought of doing that. I just always created new different accounts if I was logging into a new system. So I would have never had this issue. But being locked into that system the PS4 forever without warning is not cool at all.

Yeah that does indeed suck. Not a cool move at all for those who use the same account or want to use the same account on a different platform.

If I understand, the main problem is that Epic doesn't warn you on their website, when you're linking your account to a console platform, that you are restrained in this console platform after that.

By searching in forums, already in March users who linked their Fortnite account to their Xbox account complained that they could no longer use their account on PS4 (and vice versa).
