Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fortnite - warning DO NOT play on PS4, or you can't play on Switch (and quick start guide if you're sheltered like me, and didn't know about this game before)

And last gen you couldn't do that at all. Not because it was impossible.

Yeah, and? You can transfer your content between XONE and Switch, but if you link your account to PSN you're basically locked on PS4 and you can't transfer any content anymore. This isn't something impossible for Sony. It's already happening.

And clearly that means Sony has already lightened their restrictions. They just haven't extended it to their competitors. And I'm not sure they should

Haven't read anything in this thread, but lemme ask this:

To everyone defending this nonsense, what exactly do you gain from it? Does having crossplay lessen the lifespan of your dog or something?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Nope, it already works. I could download Fortnite to my Switch and use my Epic account from my Xbone. Technology is awesome.

Exactly. In the disc analogy MS would have given Nintendo the drivers and offered Sony them as well if Sony gives theirs to them

Yeah we’ve covered how stupid the disc analogy is already.

It's the best one here

What does Sony gain to allow Nintendo and Ms to piggy back on them? That's the question to ask

I mean, it's just progress and purchases tied to an  third party account. I can understand why they don't want crossplay, but this is just ridiculous. Solving this wouldn't do any harm to them. I don't see how it could.

You ask what they gain? Do you really ask that? They can win an argument on the internet! That's the best thing evar! Better than sex!!!

10 years greatest game event!

It sucks. I don't know exactly why are they doing this, but I bet it has to do with them not wanting the console of their competitors being able to interact with the PSN. That's what I think. Is it petty? Yeah, but I personally don't mind that they've done that. Being on top of the market means they can afford to do controversial things like these, particularly when the opposite side was too adamant on doing this last generation, like shown here, here and here. Which begs the question... why they hell is Sony forced to comply now when they were shot down years ago by the competition? And I'm not making Microsoft a strawman now; I said Sony is being petty. But if Microsoft didn't agree back then to crossplay, why should Sony be obligated to do so now? I say only let PC and mobile use their accounts.

I'm also aware that crossplay isn't exactly the same as using the same account throughout platforms...

inb4 the articles get dismissed for x reasons.

I want Epic to act like adults and make a choice. Choose to be as pro consumer as possible, based on what the people deem as acceptable, or choose to go to the 'dark side'. They apparently chose the dark side. If you think that is a horrible decision, then start a campaign to boycott Fortnite, don't blame PS. If Fortnite is such a great and amazing game, there should be no reason why they couldn't tell PS to take a hike, and convince everyone who wants to play, to buy another platform. If your going to talk about numbers, what about the 80+ million people that own/play games on PS4. Have they all been screwed over? How many people potentially could be effected doesn't matter, it's how many are actually effected.

I'll agree that if you start an account on another platform, and fire up that account on PS4, and it then locks the content of that account solely to PS4, that is a problem. That is something PS and Epic would need to address. Otherwise I see it as fair game.

It doesn't let you sign into ps4 if you set it up with another platform

Well that's a choice PS and Epic needs to make then. Either allow users of other platforms to play Fortnite on your system with their paid content, or don't. If they choose to leave it that way its simply tough beans. You could easily argue it wouldn't be much different than taking an XB1 disc like Minecraft and putting it into your PS4 and wondering why it doesn't work. If you want to play Minecraft on PS4, you have to buy the PS4 copy, and everything you do in Minecraft would be tied to PS4. Those are the rules, and if you don't like them, don't play on PS4 then. I don't see why PS should have to change their rules so others can enjoy content from other platforms through PS4.
