Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cyberpunk is a first person shooter RPG, play as male or female

I can understand having a preference, a very strong one even, of one perspective over another. Flat out refusing to play certain games based on the the perspective though….that does seem rather closed-minded to me, unless it's a situation where the perspective is causing you physical discomfort. I know some people experience nausea, and other symptoms when viewing movies or games with first person camera angles.

Now, obviously that doesn't change the fact that it's your prerogative to write off a game for whatever reason you so choose. Be it the camera angle, or whatever else you might take issue with, running the spectrum from genre to what color shoelaces the protagonist wears. We can all be more or less as open, or closed-minded as we want in regards to our entertainment. Doesn't mean I can't scratch my head at it though.

Fair enough. I understand how it may seem weird from your perspective. It's not that I deny that there are great games in first person or that first person deserves its place in gaming, I just prefer not to get into them so this news were a bit disappointing.

The thing is, is that the crowd who wants it to be 3rd person, are actively making it out to be "3rd or nothing", which sets a bad example, because it's like that group wants everything they like to be third person, over what anyone else likes. I mean, just look at the mobile market, people over there were fine with MT's, and now they've seeped into console/PC gaming, but because half of the crowd doesn't mind it (some even advocate it) it starts to be spammed more over time.

First person RPG's are quite rare these days. Sure we get a ton of First person action shooters, but not strict 1st person only RPG's, and definitely not ones based off table top games.

Next year we'll be seeing an absolute bounty of 3rd person perspective games, and even over the shoulder based ones. Meanwhile we'll have one table top based first person RPG cyberpunk game.

I didn't think you were attacking anyone btw. But I did feel a level of aggressiveness coming from that last part is all. I don't mind either camera angle tbh, but I wouldn't want one completely overriding the other (like Capcom is now fully doing with the Resi series).

First person views can also be a huge factor for drawing people in as well, I mean it worked for DOOM, Wolfenstein, Skyrim, Fallout etc.

1- Well, I don't want everything to be in third person. That would be boring and it would be tyrannical and silly for me to expect every single game to cater to my expectations. It's just that this particular game piqued my interest until I read about this perspective decision.

2- That's a fair statement and this is good news for those wanting for a 1st person RPG. Though you could argue that cyberpunk-themed RPGs are rare as well. The only recent one I can think of was the Deus Ex reboot/prequel series and that's in first person as well so I can't get into it either.

3- Yes, As you might imagine I didn't get RE7 because of this reason, which is a shame because I've been an RE-fanboy since childhood.

4- Ideally, I would love it if everyone used Fallout method. 1st person or 3rd person being an option so both sides win. I get that it's expensive to model a game for both and you can't expect that for every single release but I would be all over this game if it at least gave you the choice.

I can't believe how many people flat out refuse to play a first person game. I guess I just have to accept that there are people with more preferential barriers than me, but a first person camera is not going to ruin my enjoyment, far from it.

I can't explain why but I also prefer 3rd person much more. If there's cosmetics or character creation, I'd like to see them, 1st person also feels more restrictive in terms of mobility. I can't find the correct words to explain it but I feel more detached? It feels like the vision of the game is tunneled, can't take all the environment in. I'm actually more disappointing that it's a shooter. A third person action RPG would have been great for a world like this. I feel like we have enough futuristic shooter, not enough futuristic RPGs.

It is an RPG.  Perspective has nothing to do with that.  Perspective also has nothing to do with it being a shooter or not.

FPS explorations makes me dizzy. Maybe its a sign that I'm getting too old. lol!

well that's disappointing

Eehhh... if its FPS only i might have to skip it.
I only play Fallout and Elder scrolls cause i can also go into 3rd person.
There's no point in an RPG where you can't see your character imo.

RPGs were never about that, it's about how your character deals with all sort of situations depending on how you develop their attributes and skills.

That is an old pen and paper definition. In games RPG are not only about choices but customisation. It's fun to make your caracter look like you wish and see him/her interact with the world. I know FP tries to make it more personal but that doesn't work for me. I have no fantasies of being part of a fantasy world, i am on this one and it completely breaks my immersion when games want to pretend it's me in the world rather than the more believable character that is actually part of the world and whose representation and interaction with the world i can see.

Well, i meant more in the same style as the witcher. It's not fair to expect them to just make futuristic witcher, but when i hear FPS rpg shooter, i get destiny vibes. I'm just not a huge fan of FPS shooters and I was hoping it was a third person RPG.

I cant wait to try this game, i have been watching the Giantbomb videos with the devs at e3 and what the bombcasters played that day. I wasnt really expecting much from it but listening to them talk about what they played at the show, makes me want to really play this game.

Aj interviewing the devs:

At 3:15, one of them explains why they decided on First person over third, and I can agree as to why.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I don't know why, but im not hyped for this game :/

I was kind of interested in this game, although I was kind of thinking it would be vaporware at this point. But being in first person definitely dampens any enthusiasm I had for it.
