I'd say it was overall essentially okay. 5.7/10 for me.

Negatives:
No big new announcements. Mario Party is not my jam and we already knew FE & Xeno DLC were coming. The mech game didn't have the wow factor of Splatoon or even Arms for a new Nintendo IP. It looked pretty generic to me. Way too much time on Smash minutiae for an E3 presentation. No word on Yoshi, Bayo 3, Pikmin 4, or Retro's project they've had four and a half years to work on.

Positives:
Cool FE trailer. Super cool Ridley reveal, but it didn't have me losing my mind like Mega Man's did.

Neutral: Expected nothing on Prime 4 and was not disappointed.

6.5/10

They started really well, Daemon ex Machina, XC2 DLC, Fire Emblem (delayed :( ), Super Mario Party, 3 Nindies and the rapid fire game announcements. Then came Smash, and ho boy did that overstay it's welcome. They should have stopped after the character count, plus maybe the Daisy, Ridley and Bomberman announcements. 15 minutes shorter and muuuuch better.

The reason they did it was probably because of the invitational Tournament so the players would be briefed about the gameplay changes, but they seriously should have kept that backstage for now and showed that in a Smash Extravaganza like they did with the previous entry.

Are people seriously comparing this to that god-awful 2015 presentation? That one not only had pretty much no exciting announcements, but also several bait-and-switches of would-be interesting games instead turning out to be crappy spinoffs like Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Metroid Prime Federation Force. This one lacked surprises, sure, but I think what they showed off was decent. For one thing, they showed off the first Mario Party game in about 10 years that looks like something I'd want. Daemon X Machina and Overcooked 2 looked pretty cool too. And of course they really sold me on Smash.

But yeah, I agree. Too much time was dedicated to Smash. They really needed more content. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. Pretty similar to their massively overrated 2017 presentation for me.

No announcements, no show of announced games, Smash being a glorified port, and spending the entire conference in Smash.

3/10.

What? I hated the excessive focus on Smash but to call it a glorified port is simply stupid.

7/10. Great news about Smash, but way too much time to talk about it. And also great games, and I'm excited for the FighterZ port.

And we didn't see Koizumi which is a shame.

If I had to guess, porting takes time but DBZ is coming as is Fortnite. The latter is out today, I believe. This just off the top of my head.

Honestly I wouldn't bother, they are one of the biggest brickwall users on the site. They will up play the Vita when it was doing horrible than try to be positive about Switch and in the past the 3DS. Even if you point at games being brought over and released. It does not matter. To them it is like they have zero third party support. Like just look at their wording "third party aren't interested at all"  which is clearly hyperbole and they know it. One could argue that not all third party on board, but to act like none are interested is clearly hyperbole.

Of course it's a hyperbole. Hyperbolic sentences are used when describing an extreme situation, like the massive gap between the 3rd parties' commitment towards Sony/MS and towards Nintendo. Of course there's NIS, KT, EA, Ubi, Namco, Marvelous bringing some games. But this is E3, we look at the global picture and Sony's 3rd party line-up is leagues ahead Nintendo's right now, despite Switch selling at record pace. They are not "interested" because their support, while existing, isn't significant compared to what they do with Sony/MS. Besides, I'm not the only one being very critical of Nintendo's poor showing in this thread.

I guess I give it a 6, although that feels kind of generous really. Mostly what I liked about the presentation was the thorough walkthrough of the changes in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I actually found that unusualness to be kind of fun. And I'm super glad that Ultimate will squeeze in every single fighter from the whole franchise to date, plus Inklings, and tweak the fighting styles accordingly!

I also enjoyed the trailer for Daemon X Machina, which is now officially a game I definitely plan on getting. The art style and the heavy metal background music in the trailer (which I assume is part of the game soundtrack) just felt awesome to me. Not emotionally complex exactly, but awesome. To me, it was Nintendo at some of their finest! I'm actually much more interested in that game than I am in yet another Smash Bros. installment, tbh.

Other than that though, yeah Nintendo's presentation this year was disappointing to me. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing an update on Metroid Prime 4 (Metroid having always been by far my favorite Nintendo franchise) and, were I in a less generous mood, I would likely proclaim the whole Nintendo event to be a failure just as a result of it being a no-show alone. I'm not really half as excited about anything else Nintendo showed off this E3 as I am about that game. Metroid is special to me. The original was the game that got me into games. It doesn't seem like Nintendo puts much effort into sustaining it anymore.

And the rest of the announcements (a new Fire Emblem, Super Mario Party) seemed kind of forgettable to me. The writing I heard in Fire Emblem: Tree Houses was very unconvincing and uninteresting and the game in general just doesn't look like anything really special to me. Certainly not games that I'm going to buy, personally.

I liked Sony's weird show better. It felt more earnest and the games on offer seemed to mostly have real stories. This event seemed pretty lazy on Nintendo's part. They clearly wanted to play it safe this year by focusing on highlighting strictly near-term launches and such. Safe isn't always best though.

E3 is a weird dynamic at times.

We criticize companies showing CGI trailers of games being developed for the following year or two, but praise another doing the same thing?
Same with showing lineups. We praised Microsoft showing 2019 games while some criticize that their 2nd half of 2018 is somewhat questionable. We praise Nintendo for showing some games coming up soon in the year but criticize them for not teasing more of the following 1-2 years, when they said they were focusing on 2018 titles. We praise Sony for showing quality games we already know for 2 years, despite not knowing the release date of a few of these titles. It seems like there’s no balance when it comes to criticism at times. Which is it?

PS3 had a crappy E3 info blowout in 2006 but managed to do ok. Nintendo had a bad E3 2008 but the Wii/DS sold really well that year regardless. E3 isn’t the end all, be all, especially when Nintendo and Sony have future Directs and Conferences the rest of the year, respectively. I like watching every year but I’m not expecting the world.
It'd help if you'd stop talking like we're a hive mind. Some people like seeing the far future, others like seeing the near future. Regardless of your preference though, Nintendo's showing was bad.

Well. A few things. A lot of you are overreacting. But it's the internet, so it's expected. And you can't give the presentation a 1. You just can't lol.  And Smash isn't a port. If you still think that after yesterday, you really, really, really need to reevaluate. The presentation was pretty lame, though. I'll agree with you guys there. I wasn't very happy with it at all.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Just showing how pointless these comments are, as is the argument in general. What people wanna call it doesn't matter, wont change the actual game itself which both sides can agree looks great, so we should discuss that and keep the "new game or not?" discussion in it's dedicated thread.
