I've already played the originals. I'd rather the remasters/remakes at least try being more faithful to the source material.

You'll still be playing the same game though. Only it will no longer be the game you like. So technically, you're not even playing the game you like. Kind of makes you wonder what the point is... doesn't it?

It doesn't really make me wonder, it just makes me wish that Capcom wasn't trying to find a crowd, like other AAA companies do, that is fine with what they think you want, rather than what the crowd actually wants.

I don't think it will be 100% the same game when it comes to locations and puzzles. I really expect a bigger game, with more and bigger locarions to explore and new puzzles solve. Just a copy and past of the game in a new engine would be meh for me.

And just check the like/dislike ratios of yt. The vastly majority of people really liked what they saw. It's not like it has 50% like/dislike ratio as the first BFV trailer. Juding by the high like rates, the audience is accepting the RE4 camera style/shooting mechanics as long as it also offers the old school RE elements like limited inventory, save rooms, puzzles and backtracking (which are confirmed to be present).

for me the big surprise of e3

gameplay looks fine for me.

I really hope Capcom gives us the option to disable that horrid Chromatic Aberration effect. It is ever so noticeable when you first see Marvin.

Also headshots don't seem to be a thing anymore, which sucks, because there have been plenty of other zombie games and Romero films, where the headshot is the most sure fire way of taking a zombie out. Now it looks like headshots and any other shot will be close to RNG (Since multiple demos so far have shown one zombie dying in 1 headshot, another in 5 headshots).

Still, I wish they could have stuck with simply remaking the original game, rather than simply borrowing some parts of the game and essentially making a new one for a different audience (once again). I wish Capcom wasn't so quick to shoot down the fan mods either, because some of those fans want an actual remake, not a half baked remake with a different retelling.

A remake is to take something old and redo it with modern day tech and sensibilities. What you are asking for is NOT a remake but an upadated port.

Except I don't want the same audio, the same triggering points that set off animations. There are some things that actually really do need to change, like it or not, but shoving you into OTS wasn't objectively required. They subjectively "thought" it was suited to that style of combat. This tells us that they have changed completely from the days of the original games, which means going forward, we aren't really following Resident Evil, we're now just making it into something else, yet keeping the name.

Look at C&C, look at how they went from originality to something completely fucked over?. People like that mobile game, but they aren't fans of the original series. Those fans went out over the net to voice their disliking for what EA did to the IP.

You can still make a totally new game and not have to be a tightwad and save money by using an existing IP and simply morphing it to bring in a new crowd, while actively kicking out the old.

OTS is the modern standard for any game with shooting mechanics. That's why it was chosen.

Yes, you're right. They have changed completely from the days of the original games. As is the case with 95% of IP's older than 10 years

Resident Evil is no longer defined by the originals and has not been for  over a decade. RE4 is current baseline for the series untill RE7 style establishes itself. Run with it or get ran over.

I already pre order the game. I played the original to death and I am gonna do the same with this one.
