Forums - Politics Discussion - United Nations report on the US

Like hell an organization that protects peacekeepers who run child sex rings can judge us.

The richest country and the poorest at the same time. Sad as hell.

I have to laugh... even the poorest in USA have a situation much better than average on poor countries.

Eh. People are just going to use this to further their own agenda without little regard for anything concrete.

Basically, poor southern states push the averages way higher in all those categories. No one really cares about those or knows a way to fix them. Plenty of individual states do fine relative to the rest of the world.

I am very much middle class in America - probably closer to lower middle class than upper middle class. But if you look on a worldwide scale, I'm in the top 1%. That's amazing to me.

It's better to compare the US to other American countries like Mexico or Brazil because the demographics are getting similar. Diversity of outcome can't be avoided in a diverse society.

Well, I'm more comparing our wealth to our poverty and poor health, I guess I could have worded that better. Of course there are other countries worse off than the US, but they're also financially lacking. The fact that we are not financially lacking and have the levels of poverty and poor health that we do, it's very sad and unthinkable. The US is the ultimate oxymoron.

There is also countries that have more inequality in income (which is your comparison between rich and poor).

And it isn't an oxymoron... but as I said to another person here I won't go the length to discuss the notion of poverty and not inequality being the problem or government solving this with the socialism thoughts.

Median individual income in the United States is $31,000.

So 50% of the country is making less money than that annually.

That should give you an idea of if you are "lower middle" or "upper middle".

Eh, it could be worse.

So I wonder how that moves when you have spouse and kids. If kids have no bearing, then I'd be upper middle, then. Regardless, I am by no means anywhere close to rich, at least compared to those around me in America. Just can't get over the fact that i'm so "loaded" compared to the world.
