Is there a 'too long, didn't watch' version?

Fixed.

Knowing EA, you're probably right.

EA Canada in Vancouver has like 1800 employees, and is working on at least a dozen titles at any one time. So while they probably are working on Anthem shit, they're also working on everything else. Also, EA has a bunch more studios, like EA tiburon

I'm still watching/listening, but so far, the gist of what I got from it is:

1. The game feels like a crossbreed of Destiny, and Monster Hunter, with Mass Effect(ish) combat turned up to 11

2. Can be played alone, but definitely meant to be played in groups

3. You unlock the various suits throughout the course of the main story, and you can run whichever one you want, whenever you feel like it, so it's not like in say Destiny, where you need to start 3 characters to play each class

4. The big city is completely single player, and it's where you make decisions that affect the game's story. You will not see any other player here.

5. Outside of that, the game is completely open world.

6. The open world isn't like an MMO, where you're running into people left and right. They don't know how many people will be on a server yet, but it won't be some crazy amount

7. The world is more mythical than say Mass Effect, where you had all this tech with rational explanations for how it works. A lot of stuff here is more "ya, there's gods, and crazy shit. It's cool, so this is how it works."

8. Don't expect typical Bioware story focus. It's more about the characters, and the adventure you go on with your friends.

9. Flying takes a bit to get used to, but it's awesome.

10. World is super vertical, and intricate. It's also more densely packed, than it is large in sheer landmass.

11. Vague on endgame content so far. "World will continually evolve, with new things to do." No specifics given

12. Microtransaction are "forever cosmetic."

13. Not directly said, but implied that pretty much all hands at Bioware are currently on deck for this game.

Damn, the Respawn Star Wars game sounds promising as hell. Jedi being hunted post-RotS? Holy shit.

EA might find a way to fuck it up, though, see: Battlefront II.

Good for you; did you hear the audience? They sure didn't care.

And sports games are just the same thing every year. You might play them, sure, but when was the last time you were genuinely excited for a new entry in Fifa? I wouldn't be surprised if VIRTUALLY NOBODY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD jumped at this new mode like half the gaming sphere did when Smash was announced or the FFVII remake was shown for the first time.

Do you care? Sure. but are you passionate about it? I highly doubt it. Sports games will almost never elicit the same giddy joy or love that other games would.

So while my statement of 'who cares' is less about the absolutes as you seem to have interpreted it, the actual sentiment is 'who cares enough to be excited?' As in, yay....another Battlefield! Another Sports game. Another Halo. Another Forza. Another Gran Turismo. Another Gears of War. Another Assassin's Creed. Whoop-de-do. Nobody holds the same passion for those titles as they do for smash, or God of War, or Zelda, or Mario, or Grand Theft auto, or Red Dead Redemption, or The Last of Us, or Uncharted.

As somebody who gave FIFA 18 his official 2018 GOTY award, I can safely say at least one person was much more excited by the FIFA 19 reveal than either of those two you mentioned

But how can you claim to be excited about a game that you 100% knew was coming (because it literally comes every year) based on a franchise that is certainly good but only making iterative improvements on the same thing over and over again? I'm sure the new mode will be cool, but how is a minor change/addition the same as, say, a whole new IP like Splatoon with gameplay unlike anything seen before?

Almost all sports games are virtually identical to their past iterations. Make a few tweaks, add a few tackle animations, push a marginally different mode...but then still have 95% of the actual gameplay identical to last year's model. At least racing games have new tracks and fighting games have new characters and open worlds have new maps to explore. A sports game will always have players faffing about with a ball on the same playing field doing nearly identical things ad nauseum.

Final Fantasy's Blitzball had more variety to it than any football/basketball games. Sure, it was nowhere near as refined, but it was more interesting because it at least had some variety to it.

My point is, I can't fathom how someone could be excited for 'sports ball 2018' when it's 90% the same game as 'sports ball 2017'. I get that it has that feeling like it's an excuse to return to an old favorite if you're into that, but to be super excited for it when it's basically the same thing? I just don't get that.

All I get from these EA sports announcements is 'yep, it's another sports game, but this time it's slightly better'.

When the internet is throwing a fit over Dark Souls Remastered just being Dark Souls with some performance tweaks and better online, it strikes me as odd to hear similar people buying the same football game once a year for a decade straight.

True

A group at EA Vancouver are confirmed to be working on Visceral's SW game.

More like the gutted remains of it. It'll never be the same singleplayer, story focused game that Visceral was making under Amy Hennig's direction. EA wanted a different direction, something more multiplayer and GaaS oriented, so they just shut Visceral down and sent the assets to EA Vnacouver to cobble together into a multiplayer game they can pump microtransactions into.

No unfortunately.

But at this point I just want EA to actually make something out of that SW license.

With EA as the publisher the odds are against us but for all we know, the game could end up being something worthwhile.

EA: 1.7/10

Battlefield V - Yep, it's a battlefield game and we got COD WWII last year. Who cares?

Fifa 19 - Nobody cares.

Origin access Premier - Nobody cares, and Origin sucks.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - I am interested but Star Wars Battlefront has ruined any faith I may have had in EA-published star wars games. Plus, it's just a title announcement and a confirmation about when it takes place. I will reserve interest until next year at the earliest.

Star Wars Battlefront II - See above. Nope.

Unravel Two - The high point of the conference. I love the charm, the look, the feel and the co-op gameplay. Two thumbs up! Liked the first one, too.

Sea of Solitude - Sure, I'm cautiously optimistic. The presenter was a bit awkward, but she's clearly a designer, not a presenter.

NBA Live 2019 - Nobody Cares.

Madden 19 - Nobody cares and that shitty kid made it worse. Seriously, who thought this brat was likable?

Command and Conquer Rivals - I like Command and conquer, but not as much as I hate mobile 'gaming'. This is a non-entity and the MLG-styled commentary was cringeworthy.

Anthem - I like the concept and it looks pretty, but the 'trailer' display and the stupid talk show segment are both equally bland as hell. Seriously, what a waste.

Terrible, terrible presentation without even getting into the cringeworthy claps and applause that were clearly fake. Why even try at this point? Probably the least interesting or eventful E3 conference I've seen in years. the 1.7/10 is only because I really liked Unravel and I have some cautious optimism about a few other titles.

EA should quit trying.

Because they don't make presentations for you, they make presentations for investors, stuff like Origin Premier announcing on stage makes investors happy.

They announced the Champions League that's HUGE. You don't like it that is fine but you are being Selfish for hating that they show it.

I wasnt going to watch it until I was bored enough with nothing better to do. lol

welp thats an hour i will never get back. Nice C&C bastardized game to mobile, that was THE most disappointing. I can see maybe liking Anthem. BF5 will be talked about more tomorrow.

I would have liked to have seen Skate 4 and an ME trilogy remaster, 60fps 4k,

Now I am really looking forward to maybe ubisoft, but will be there to watch the MS presentation. The bar is very low with this start.

edit: also forgot about the new game from Respawn, I will be giving serious consideration for this game even if it is starwars, i really like Respawn.
