Forums - Gaming Discussion - How is Final Fantasy XV?

I've been thinking about getting it since i've never played a FF game before and its pretty cheap right now and the visuals look pretty damn sweet. Is the story and gameplay any good?

I don't know, but if you're not in a hurry, you may want to wait for the inevitable Ultra Super Duper Royal Edition, after the next few DLC story expansions have been released.

WTF I thought the Royal Edition was supposed to be the final version of the game.

It's a great game, story and gameplay wise.  I'd wait until after the hopefully last set of DLC episodes come out which include episode Ardyn, Aranea, Luna and Noctis.   But just to note regarding complaints you may hear online (and pretty much just online to the level you hear complaints of FFXV).. there's a division of FF fans that have an impossible set of expectations unless the game stylistically goes back to old school turn based and then all of a sudden everything is just peachy.  Watch this post trigger them to come in after I mentioned them lol.  They can't resist.

The game looks pretty, but that is all. Story is anemic, characters underdeveloped, combat is to hold the button behind the mobs. You can do these flashy teleports or magic grenades, but they hardly matter.

It's all flash and no substance.

They have added DLC's wich probably develops characters a little bit more, but none of it is terribly interesting. You will be bored to tears unless you are someone who enjoys tackling all those repetitive and boring objectives in an open world game.

It is fun and has a ton of content. Graphics are fantastic and it is a very enjoyable game overall.

I never played the DLC, so while I was able to piece the story together somewhat coherently, it is just all over the place. I would look try a different Final Fantasy if you want a good story personally (again, cannot speak for Royal Edition). If you do want to try to piece it together, watch the movie and the six episode anime first.

But if you are looking for a large scale world with plenty of action JRPG gameplay, pick it up. It does do well in that department, even though the combat is simple.

I used to be excited for that game but in the end the QTE abuse and bro-mance story line have turned me off so I won't be getting that game anymore. I'm more interested in FF12 The Zodiac Age and World of Final Fantasy.

Keep your expectations very low. Trust me.

Anyone who likes this game is just an apologist who laps up anything Square serves them lol.  Now watch them get triggered by this comment.

Of course, I don't actually believe that but I couldn't help wanting to mock your attempt to poison the well against anyone who disagrees with you.

I think it's best to get another Final Fantasy if you're looking to get into the series. XV was disappointing. I was hyped for it when i saw the 2013 E3 trailer, but then the game switched directors from Nomura to Tabata and the result was a huge downgrade in my opinion.

I got it last Christmas but due to a combination of lack of time, other games etc I've yet to make it past the tutorial.

Along with Kingdom Come it is still on my to play list.
