Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Predict lifetime sales of Octopath Traveler

I think it will sell...

Less than 1 million 14 9.52%

1-2 million 79 53.74%

2-3 million 40 27.21%

Over 3 million 14 9.52%

Total:147

Anyone predicting less than 1M at this point is a dofus. I predict around 2.5M.

Looking like a sure 1-2m seller at this point possibly even 3m this bolds well for upcoming titles like TWEWY.

Given the shortages of the physical version and the game's small file size, I expect it will have a stronger than average digital ratio; hopefully Square or Nintendo give some indication as to its sales numbers, cos VGC's physical only numbers may paint an unrealistically low impression.

I liked the demo. But I think 60 dollars is a lot for the game. I think it will sell 500k but if they cut the price to $30 over 1 million easy.

I believe based off of the first week japan physical sales and the game taking over eshop charts world wide that at least a million sales is likely. I think it'll do about as good as Xenoblade 2 did. I love the game, and it seems to be getting a lot of praise on social media as well. Im hoping it does more and that Square Enix continues to give us exclusives like this.

Games are fun.

It's at 120k for the first week from known numbers in the UK and Japan. A solid debut in both places despite physical software shortages. Now to see how it performs in North America and the rest of Europe (particularly France). Should easily be in that 1-2 million range at minimum.

It debuted about the same as Bravely Default in Japan, although digital sales may be higher. I think it'll do slightly better in the West, so I'd say somewhere in the 1.7 to 2 million range. Just downloaded it. Gonna play it tomorrow.

That seems a bit of a low ball considering it just had an opening week of 110k physical in Japan alone despite shortages.

It's already at 110k without digital in Japan. Add in the rest of the world, where there's also shortages of the game (though nowhere near as severe as in Japan, although it's totally sold out on Amazon), I can guarantee you it will open up already with over 500k WW sales first week.

First week numbers are probably already over your prediction ...

And no, the game's value is well above 60$ for the content and the presentation it has. Seriously, why do people keep bringing that up ?

Probably because it doesn't look like Ultra Mega HD 16K Super Grafx Plus. And probably because they confuse retro graphics with these 16bit inspired graphics - which are hell of a lot more difficult to do and especially pull off convincingly.

Like people already stated, only in Japan in first week game sold 110k (with digital sales its probably around 130k+) and was completly sold out in Japan and in some other markets, so we probably talking around 500k+ only in first week WW.
This game will not have problem passing 2m LT.
