Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Square Enix Devotes Division To Developing Switch Games

Most interesting bit: "If Octopath does well, we want to focus on Switch."

Makes sense given Switch is inevitably becoming the system of choice for Japanese gamers.

Bravely Default is solid, quite popular and quite quality game for 3DS game, Octopath Traveler also seems it will be quite good game.

Bravely Default was one of the most soulless, grindy, and repetitive RPGs I have ever played. The game literally keeps repeating itself for padding. It is perhaps because certain younger Nintendo fans have accepted mediocrity in the place of greatness because they haven’t had the experience.

There’s no reason to be a champion of mediocre RPGs because they’re the best exclusives that Square’s got for Nintendo consoles at this time.

Well as someone who didn't finish the game due to the flaws you are referring to - and who is not a young ingorant fanboy, though thanks for that cheapshot - I think you are being quite hyperbolic.

Bravely Default is quite solid...for 2/3 of its run time.  The third act is, imho, the single most severe drop in quality I have ever seen in a game.but it doesn't make the whole game bad from start to finish and to declare it as a fact like you are some objective arbiter of quality and everyone else is young, ignorant, and blindly loyal is quite arrogant.

It's biggest flaw is a lack of spine.  They were clearly terrified that if the game didn't reach arbitrary length, it would be scoffed at.  But if the game had just allowed itself to be the 25 to 30 hours tops game that it actually is, it would have been much better.

Interesting quote buried in the interview:

Its in OP also, I think he just pushing Octopath because it will be launching soon, he also clearly said "Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch," an that there "are several other titles that we're currently working on for Switch".

oh nice, now Switch owners get to wait 10yrs for a game just like the rest of us.

Except when it's the Bravely/Octopath dev doing the job :P

Acquire is not Silicon Studios.

Yet they are unable to bring Dragon Quest XI in time and unable to bring FF XV to Switch version.

Certainly because they hate Nintendo, as show with them devoting a division for it.

While hate is a strong word, you have to understand that companies are run by humans. We make mistakes, have bad judgement, underestimate numbers and other companies, even hold grudges.

I certainly think SE doesn't hate Nintendo, or has anything against them. But they surely show a lack of confidence, at least in the early stages of Switch's lifecycle. That is also true for most 3rd parties.

You know shit has hit the fan when the fiercest 3rd party Nintendo supporter is Bethesda, lol.

Yes I totally agree with you that they may have underestimated Switch sales potential and the games that could thrive on it (although I don't think FF XV would get a competent port in Switch).

Now is time to see what they are going to develop in this dedicated division and if they are going to keep them exclusives to Switch (either because they are doing ports of the others versions, or developing games they think doesn't have market in the other consoles) or port over after release.

Well with regards to DQXI, we also need to remember how...well terrible Square is at directing major projects on ANY platform.  It's entirely possible and indeed quite likely they've poorly managed the DQXI Switch port.

Considering their job with FF XIII Versus, KH3, FF VIIR and as you said DQXI, yes they have facing some big issues.
